As for the way to do French tips - it does take time, but it's really easy. As long as you have the right tools. I do them for myself and I did them for my best friend. She's the first person and the only other person I've ever done French tips for. Just make sure you have acetone on hand, a good brush. You don't necessarily need a steady hand, because depending on the way you hold the brush, it can mean the difference between crap and flawless. :P
EDIT- Oh and by the way you hold the brush, I mean in regards to creating the perfect shape. The brush and acetone is what matters.
