Bump.
venti-anemoi
Name: Zephyr
Favorite flavor of bubble tea: Jasmine or strawberry
First time you had bubble tea: Hmm.... I dunno. Must've been when I was really young, 'cause now it's an integral part of my life. :D
Store you usually buy from: All over the place - Quickly's, Qcup, Ophelia before they jacked the price way up.... But my favorite is Verde. :]

QUOTE
There's no where to get bubble tea around here. The only time I have it is when the Asian sorority sells it. Had a green tea one yesterday, though my friend's black tea one was actually better, because it was creamier.

My community is like 50% Asian, so there're four bubble tea places within 5 minutes' drive of each other. :D

Welcome, Zephyr. :]

Wow, is there a lot of competition between them?

Mom bought bubble tea from Tai Pan Bakery today. It was okay. Too many bubbles.
venti-anemoi
Hmm, I'm not sure. I think there's too much business for them to worry about competition. XD

I've never heard of Ten Ren, by the way. o_o

I guess that's good. How much are the cheapest and most expensive prices?

Ten Ren...is pretty big in New York City; I'm not sure about Cali. It might depend where you live. I know Quickly started in Cali and then came here.
venti-anemoi
Cheapest is at Verde; you can get one there for $2.44. Oh wait, but that's for just green tea with pearls, no milk..... but I think with the milk is still under $3.

Oh, I forgot to mention Tapioca Express. I think it's most expensive at TapEx, but I haven't been there in a while so I don't remember the exact price. I think it's around $3.50 ish? Not sure.....

That's more expensive than in NYC. At Quickly, it's $2 if you have a student ID; normal price is $2.50. A large/double is $3.50 or $4.
venti-anemoi
Yeah, stuff is really expensive here. Higher price of living and all. <_< Stupid smart Asians.

Double is generally add $.50. I don't know if there are student discounts, but it'd make sense since Quickly's is right across the street from a community college.
Joannnnnne
My friend works at a bubble tea place now... it's pretty good, except the pearls are really mushy. =\

Too bad she can't give me a discount. =(

Heh, sorry I prodded you into posting here, but I wanted this club to be alive again.

Quickly has good bubbles, but Ten Ren has better tea.

Just regular milk tea? You should try peach! That's good. Or taro.
venti-anemoi
I like strawberry. :X Does that count?

haha it's probably because I'm cheap and almost always broke, so I always get the cheapest one, which is just regular milk tea. Jasmine's good, too. :]
SilentLaugh
^where do you buy yours?

where i buy mine, reg is the same price as flavored..
venti-anemoi
What, really? Around here, it doesn't matter where you get it, flavored is always more expensive. _dry.gif

Sure, it does, but not if you don't get it that often.

Same as Shrima. Where I buy mine, all flavors cost the same thing; it just depends on the size.
venti-anemoi
Dude, where do you all live? I'm going there for college. :D

I still remember when your family drove to California and I told you to get..some food or drink in California that you couldn't get in Washington or something. :\
moninja

it was like RIGHT THERE. i was like, "guys can we stop for bubble tea please?" and they were like, "NO, we don't have time for that!" sad.gif sad.gif sad.gif

Why yes, yes, I would. :D

Actually, I kinda want to see if I can get into colleges there on scholarship or something. Otherwise, I probably couldn't go.

Oooh, Columbia. Although, that's far from any boba place, since it'd take a while to reach Chinatown or Queens.
SilentLaugh
or NYU. Not just New York. I know for a fact there are bubble tea places in Rhode Island. And in Rhode Island there's Brown and RISD.
But in NYC, if you dont want to spend much, there is Stonybrook, CUNY and SUNY's, LIU, Queens College, St. Johns. The list goes on =]

Btw, i recently had lemon slush with tapioca. and lemon milk tea (which i didnt think would taste very good but was delish =])

Well yeah, there are boba places all over the US, but it's just that there are soo many in NYC.

That sounds good. I've been drinking a lot of lemonade recently, so lemon milk tea would be a nice change. Is it just milk tea with lemon juice squeezed in? I could make that at home.
SilentLaugh
^lol, don't think so. i mean, thats not what they did at Quickly. Least thats not what it looked liked...
No, i think milk tea with lemon would taste bad. I'm not sure how to explain. From what i had, lemon was the superior. Like...they put like this yellow substance into the cup, something else (which i'm sure was like a milk mixture) and then the tapioca.
yea..you should probably just buy it :P
venti-anemoi
I like lemon. Maybe I'll try that next time.

I was thinking if I practiced really hard this summer and auditioned for music schools I might be able to get scholarships. _unsure.gif I might have a higher chance at a music scholarship than academic, because my school is so academically competitive that I don't stand out at all, even though I get pretty good grades and test scores.

What do you play? I don't think colleges will know that you don't stand out at your school if hardly any other students from there are applying to them. Good luck.

I don't know anyone who plays that. What music schools are you looking into here? (I don't even know of any 'sides Juilliard, haha.)
venti-anemoi
Manhattan School of Music is big. :P Probably wouldn't get in. Umm.... BU has a pretty good music program, but it's not in NY. (All the schools on the east coast are pretty much grouped together in my mind.)

More realistically, UCLA or USC. Just slightly.

Do you have Verde Tea Cafe in NY?

Haha, oh. BU's not far from here since Boston is about four hours' drive from NYC.

I don't think so, because no NY results came up when I Earthled it. And they don't have their own website, so no store locater for me.

Boba places in Washington have more interesting names than New York's! Although there's one in Chinatown that I can't recall the name of. The first time I saw their business card, I wanted to laugh.
venti-anemoi
They really do have interesting names. "Ambrosia".... I like that. Maybe I'll change my username :D been meaning to for ages. The ones here are just franchises, nothing interesting.

Where is edmonds?
moninja
haha cristy, what'd it look like?

edmonds is like...a couple minutes away from seattle? i don't know the exact time/distance..i don't drive XD

The store name might be Uwie Uwie or something. I only went there once.

MapQuest is your friend. Seattle and Edmonds are about 26 minutes and 17.87 miles apart.

moninja

On Google Maps, I tried to search the distance from Seattle to Seoul, Korea, but it wouldn't let me because Google Maps is just for driving directions. I was looking it up for a friend who lives in Seattle.

And there are a few ways to pronounce it, too. I don't know if it's supposed to be "ooh-wee ooh-wee," but that's how I say it.
moninja
zephyr got a name change! i like it :]

cristy, i thought it was "ohh-wee ooh-wee" too. i wanna go there now XD.gif
