I have a friend at VTech, and I got to her through facebook, so I'm feeling so relieved.
She lives in East Ambler Johnston, right beside the dorm where the shootings took place.

That's scary. I live in Virginia, and when I was in school today, our chorus teacher told us about it. We sat in class for like, 30 minutes talking about it. It's pretty scary. My sister goes there, so I was kind of freaking out, until I got home today, and I saw her at home (she doesn't have classes today). =/
By the way..there's more than 22 killed. There were 32 people killed, and 24 injured. I don't know that much about it, because I haven't read the article yet. But my chorus teacher told us the dude who was responsible for this committed suicide.

They just released that the gunman committed suicide. This is awful. I can't believe that they didn't shut down the campus after the first shootings at West Ambler Johnston.

This is so terrible. Last I heard the number was up to 33 deaths.

I cant believe after the first shooting at 7:00, they didnt bother to properly inform all the students. All they did was send out emails... who the heck checks their email that early in the morning? The school was equipped with emergency alarms, which were never set off. It's almost like they continued classes like it was no big deal. I cant help but to imagine, what if they would have locked down the school properly? The additional 30 deaths could have possibly been prevented.

You're right, this incident can happen anywhere else. So why does this incident deserve special treatment. Nobody bats an eye at the people dying in Africa of AIDs or even at that one forsaken place called Darfur. Nobody bats an eye at the diamond mines they have in Niger. Nobody batted an eye at the school shooting that happened in Quebec a couple months back. But this deserves special treatment. Human sincerity, what a joke.

Strangely, I always had an irking feeling that something tragic would happen on a college campus. Given all the protests, the occasional riot, the bomb threats that happened infrequently; all thanks to young men and women struggling to find themselves in a world where beliefs clash. I don't know what this guy's motives were, but the likelihood of it happening (on any college campus where people push the lines of extremism), has always been pretty high.
In a situation like this, what do you do? Lock down a college campus like a military base? Set up gate guards and ahve metal detectors? Make people carry clear backpacks and wear uniforms? Cut back on political activism and multiculturalism? What can you do? I had a Glock 22 in college (and in high school), but it certainly wasn't for a killing spree, it was in case karma kicked in or if something incredibly scary happened.

On the contrary , there are people who give a damn and do all they can to help out with AIDS in Africa like Alicia Keys. What about Oprah building a school for disadvantaged kids in Africa? So you think no one knows about the diamond mines although last year Kanye blazed the air waves with Diamonds are forever, and the movie Blood Diamond came out late part of last year. And for the record the Quebec shooting was all over CNN the day it happened.

Hey hey, I didn't know Alicia Keys, Oprah, Kanye, and movie producers did this out of the will of their good hearts soley. Oh, I also didnt know that these four people represent all of America! I'm sure I have a part of Oprah in me somewhere.

th4567890: I see what you're getting at, but don't try to downplay one topic because you feel as though another is more important. Example; what if you knew someone or had family at Virginia Tech and they fell victim to the mass murderer? Would you give two shits about terminal illness in Africa then?
