I know Stephenie Meyer said on her website that she's got her eye on Henry Cavill for the part of Edward, but I think he's a bit too... big? buff? to be Edward. He'd be a better Emmett, in my opinion.

Judging by her avatar, I say she doesn't like him as Edward. She seems to prefer Hayden Christensen.

I highly doubt Gaspard will be chosen as Edward if the movie is made. Gaspard is French and not well known in the States. And I don't think he'd pick an MTV movie as his second American film.

Hayden? Doubt it... I don't think he's up to playing a teenage vampire with the way his career is going.

As for Henry? MAYBE. If anyone had a shot in hell, it'd be him. And even though Ms. Meyer has no say in casting, the author's opinions does matter and she likes him.

I bet when it comes down to it, they'll be casting unknowns or people way out from left field that we didn't expect. Which is kind of why I kind of don't want a movie to be made. Meh.

I think I'd prefer Hayden over Henry if Gaspard wasn't a choice.
I'm dead set on Gaspard being picked, too.

I actually think Henry will do a better job than Hayden, just based on his movies so far.

I think Hayden is cuter than Henry but Henry is a bit of a better actor than Hayden.

If the cast was chosen by fan favorites, Gaspard would DEFINITELY be playing Edward. I just watched Paris, Je T'aime and the segment with Gaspard in it... GUH. He was so cute speaking French and then English with his little French accent. ♥


Henry was super cute in Tristan + Isolde.

But isn't it always that way when books are made into movies? Which is why I try not to read the book until after I've watched the movie. So then the whole time I won't be comparing it... instead, I can just enjoy it.

The only reason I picked Gaspard was because he was EVERYWHERE on my LJ flist. And because I saw him first, I pictured him while reading the books and it just stuck. Not that that's a bad thing.

exactly. I don't want a movie made at all. I refuse to have spent the past two years of my life obsessing over a book just to have MTV make a film that is going to absolutely slaughter it.

I'm on the fence about a movie being made of the books. While it's nice to see the storyline and characters come to life, there are always going to be mess-ups that change your view of the book forever. :|

I went to two Barnes & Nobles, Borders and Waldenbooks and they all hadn't received New Moon SE yet.

Isn't that strange? Some bookstores got theirs really early, and the five I went to hadn't gotten it at all. It made me sad.

I've already read the first chapter though. An amazing person from LJ emailed it to me, but I still want to actually get my hands on it and own it. How disappointing.

Yes, definitely strange. I'm glad the one I went to already had it in stock. But maybe your local bookstores will get them in soon.

Definitely a conflict. I'm thinking that their rivalry will escalate into a full-blown war, and Bella will be caught in the middle of it even more than she is now.

Yeah, the first chapter was definitely foreshadowing a major conflict between the vampires and werewolves.

On a random note: I hope Bella and Edward go to Dartmouth. That would be so cool.

I don't want any of the Cullens to be killed off either, but chances are they will. I don't know why; just a feeling I've got. Either that or one of them will sustain serious injuries that impair them later on. x_x

xD Edward's been accepted into a lot of colleges already, hasn't he? Some Ivy League ones, too.

Edward's been to numerous colleges and he has also gone to school to become a doctor but he doesn't practice like Carlisle.

Who here thinks that Meyers made Edward a little too perfect. I mean, come on, I adore him and all because I'm a huge romantic (and I love dark, dreamy, sensitive, deep, mysterious, pale vamp-boys), and don't get me wrong, but Edward can be a bit boring. I just wish she had more of a personality rather than just a regular vampire character. One of the flaws in the writing... The poor development of true character.

Maybe I just haven't thought about Twilight in a while. (I've been way too stressed out about Harry Potter).

He does have his sudden "mood swings"... but I don't really think any guy would talk so sweetly + romantically in real life. The things he says are things that could only come out of a book. I sort of wish there was more to him than just the dark, romantic, perfect vampire.

I also find it strange that Bella is so clumsy... I mean, I know you can be really clumsy and trip over things a lot, but I just found the part about how she's so clumsy she hurts people in sports and all a bit ... lame? Stereotypical? Just my thoughts.

Yeah, I guess Edward and Bella are a bit predictable. Then again, I suppose that Edward is just supposed to be that perfect: since he's a vampire and very charming, we won't find anyone like that in real life. Ever. Boys in books are always better.

I don't think he's completely perfect. I mean... there's the fact that he went all stupid and tried to get himself killed (although it's extremely romantic in a sick way lol).

The thing that PISSED ME OFF like HELL is how Meyers brushed aside a transformation of Bella as if it were a speck of dust. Maybe I'm just someone who is an all-out vampire freak, but seriously, I thought that there should have been more emotion / trauma / serious thought conveyed when Bella just decided "Hey, why don't we vote on if I get to be immortal or not?" [smiley face].

I still love the idea of an Edward-ish type living out there though ;]

^ yeah i agree with you, i love the book and all but i think the author couldve done a better job developing the characters more. im not so like omg the book is the greatest thing since slice bread or water in bottle. theres something missing...greatly. and i hope she'll do a much better job with the third.

I guess that's part of why Twilight was such a big hit, though. Because of how unbelievably perfect Edward is... readers who scutinize and pay a lot of attention to the book may be ticked off about it but I think a lot of young teens would overlook the lack of character development.

Yeah, they have. They renewed their right to make the movie a second time, so they have till 2008 to decide whether or not to start filming.
