How long is too long to wait for someone?

When they're with someone else.

Depends on the situation. There's only too many...
While he's with someone else, or right after a break up? Then there's the case of how long they went out, and etc.
Elaborate.

Don't wait around for some one. It's a dead concept. I tried once and it sucked. It's not worth your time. If you're in a situation where you're on hold, then maybe you're just not that important to them.

Well, if you wait you could be putting your life on pause for someone who doesn't feel the same way as you do. You could be setting yourself up for failure.
On the other hand, if there is a legitimate reason for the wait. It might be worth it. (example: maybe the person your waiting for doesn't have time for the relationship at the moment because of school, work, etc... and they told you that as soon as they were done they would end your "wait")
I don't know... in the end it's up to you, but you should really understand what you should be getting yourself into. It's an opportunity cost, and just like any investment (a relationship is an investment... you're investing time) if you think the risks are to great then you should get out.

Just for the record.
I started liking my boyfriend... more than four years ago, and I never really stopped. He was just the first person to stand out to me in a giant room, and... well, the first person to stand out in general. However he was always surrounded by other girls and I was just some dorky invisible seventh grader while he was flocked...
We got together in 2005 when we actually had the opportunity to talk more and it's been going fine since.
In my case, I didn't have to really give up, but during those couple years when I didn't get to talk to him, I just distracted myself with things like music, writing, and trying to make tons of friends (which actually worked).
Since you haven't elaborated, I don't know if it's practical in your situation. I don't think it was in mine either, but I just got lucky..

Both of our parents don't want us seeing each other and he got pulled out of public school and is homeschooling now... And I promised, we both did, that we would wait for ach other... which would be around 2 years... I really love him, and I can see myself with him for a long time.... married.... It's just that my friends think I should go out with other people and have fun... he's not even allowed to talk to me... and he might move somewhere this summer... =[

if it's going to be an impossible relationship, i think it's too long to wait.
so if you're not going to be able to even talk to him, if he moves and won't be able to visit you... it might be tough to wait for him. i'm not saying it can't work out... but you have to judge if you and this guy will both go 2 years without dating anybody else.

He calls me when he can, and we leave each other voice messages on our cell phones (we don't have them with us, but we can check the messages)... It's just I'm worried he'll lose interest... I'm sure about me.... I know it's going to be hard. I'm not dumb, but I know that I love him....

because I want to see if what I'm doing is unreasonable...

We're teenagers. I doubt most of the things we do are reasonable.
Your priorities change a lot between high school and college and through college.. and after college. You go from being dependent on your parents to not having them support you financially (or at least, that's how I'm going to be). When that changes, who knows if you can handle a relationship? I don't know if I can.
Don't you know anyone that's made drastic changes since high school?
Just because you can picture both of you married doesn't mean a lot. Anyone with an imagination can do that easily...
