i'm assuming this is the section to discuss this. But as far as nice color schemes, is there something you go by when choosing colors? Or do you randomly select colors that you think would work? It is one problem that I have with designing things from banners to layouts. Any advice you can share?

Learn color theory. Once you grasp it choosing color themes will be a sinch in most cases.

When designing I always make a list of colors that compliment each other and work from there. However, sometimes it's fun to bend the rules a little and just experiment with color, whether they are complementary or not.

i see im going to have to do a little web surfing.

i like color whore (search it). i designed one of my layouts around 2 of the 'bright' colors.

When I make something, I'll usually brush on some colors on its own layer. I'll have a general idea of what colors I want to use and which shades (metallic, pastel, neon, etc.) and pick and change using the color palette.

I'm going to look into color theory and color-whore. Thank you Kiera and Michelle.
Intercourse.
Yea I took a little class on color theory. I have a cd that has a little teaching on it too.

I use to make color palettes so I have a few on my computer that I choose from, from time to time. Also I usually take a simple brush and open up a new document and take colors I like and I think I will use that all go together and just use the brush with that one color on the document to get an idea..

Color Whores are nice: http://www.colorwhore.com/index.asp?Color=Green

don't know... maybe cuz i live in the bronx people wear all sorts of different colors... nothing bright... but the sneakers they get have like 100000000000 different colors in them XD.gif

I usually use cool dark colours in my colour scheme. I don't like warm bright colors on my designs for some odd reason. They penetrate the eyes! blink.gif

And I use a color wheel to decide which colors go together.

Found an amazing resource. Color Jack. Be sure to check out the widget and studio links as well!
k33zy
oh thanks mona... wow that is great. it shows 6 colors that can go together at once.
phoenixpyre
I used an online color scheme site once, and what I made turned out horrible... So I went back to just picking colors that look great together.

Sometimes, colors you wouldn't expect to look good together are the best to put together. Like, I just vectored an orange and purple bear! :D

I usually just go with colors from the image. I'm not big on what colors go with what. I'll test them out in my image program and if they don't look good, I'll chose something else. I don't know color theories, but somehow it all works out in the end.
anime-essence
I stick to the colors of image I created. I usually try to compliment colors whether it be lighter shades or darker, or colors close to eachother when you go up/down/left/or right on the color spectrum. I don't fear color scheming. thumbsup.gif

That's a good way to go about it. I like that you fear not colors!
michellerrific
Eh, I just use what's on the image or what matches the theme. I just select a nice random color from the Photoshop color scheme.

I always get my color schemes by the images. I just take the color dropper and put it on the image, and thats my color usages. I never use color schemes on sites before though. o.O

I always use colors from images that I use as well, but if you're creating a layout that does not involve any images, it's a great way to match colors! _smile.gif

I've never used an online color scheme, I usually just pick colors that I want to use. laugh.gif
Sometimes the colors are from the image, other times they are random colors that I think will look good.

yeah that's what i do. and usually it works. if it doesn't match at all i just change the shade or completely change the color. experimenting's what works for me.
