The only thing I have ever played on the piano well is the Rugrats song, so I am most definitely not the person that's best to turn to about this stuff. But surely there is someone that could critique you well in say...the Entertainment forum? tongue.gif

Dude, first things first. Get your piano tuned! I don't know if it's just Youtube or what, but...that is not pretty to the ears.

I'm not big on jazz piano (I lean towards classical stuff), but I quite like this.

Just curious, what is that squeaking noise? Is that your pedal?

I really can't critique this at all since I have no skill whatsoever. All I can play is twinkle twinkle little star and mary had a little lamb with ONE hand. It sounds a little bit choppy, though. Maybe you should make smoother. I'm guessing you can do that by tuning the piano..

Pretty good technique and all, but damn man, get that thing tuned! laugh.gif

There is a constant squeaking. Is that maybe an outside noise?

At least you can play something. I only know how to play the first 13 notes of Yankee Doodle. I wanna learn more. =O

Well, pianos do need to be tuned by a professional, unlike a guitar (you can tune the strings yourself). The wires in a piano become less tight over the months as the hammers strike on them, and the tuning goes off. A professional tuner will tighten the strings to the correct tone.

not bad, this is the kind of stuff our pianist plays in jazz band. one thing i notice was that it echoed alot, maybe lay off the pedal some?

Mrm, you know that pedal at the bottom? That's the tuning pedal (piano players, correct if I'm wrong with the name.

AND I KNOW, RIGHT? It's like a battle of click-click-clicks! tongue.gif

^ Tuning pedal? There's no tuning pedal...At least, no pedal that's intended to be used for tuning purposes.

There are usually three pedals at the bottom of a piano, only two of which are important.

The damper pedal (which is used the most often) prevents strings from vibrating, and creates a blurred sound.

The soft pedal shifts the entire keyboard a little to the right, so the hammers don't hit all three of the strings, just two, and produces a softer sound (it's reeeally subtle, but it's noticeable if you've been playing years of piano).

Neither of them really help with tuning at all.

*goes to Wikipedia article to get educated on the piano, and she is very obviously ignorant* sad.gif mellow.gif

Wait..sooo...before I read the article, do pianos get tuned? I was honestly under the impression that they were.
S0ul_Reaper
pianos do get tuned every instrument needs tuning if not played for awhile they intend to go flat.
