Will an iPod get damaged in any way if it is constantly being checked under a metal detector? I heard that cellphones get damaged after prolong exposure to it, so I was jw if it was the same deal.
think!IMAGINARILY
I guess it can, but that's why airports have a little box to put your stuff in.

Prolonged exposure to x-rays (which is what a metal detector emits) will harm anything. Even humans.

^That sucks big time because I usually sneak in my iPod through this metal detector at work. hahhaz

my ipod still works i have been through many metal detectors haha

my school even does it

when they need to

and if at airport ask them to take your ipod

thats what i did

all they did was turn it on and off then put it over the metal thing

I imagine it's possible. Metal detectors use electromagnetism to find metal. The iPod has a hard drive that uses magnetism to store data. Thus, a strong enough magnet can corrupt the data on the hard drive. I don't know if a metal detector's magnet is strong enough to damage data on a hard drive, but I imagine it's possible.

A metal detector does not use x-rays, and x-rays do not damage hard drives (or the data on them).

So you're really supposed to use those, besides stuff thats in your pockets?

Ahhhh CRAP. My poor ipod/cell/cd player sad.gif
I've been through the metal detectors at the airport like a bajilliiiooon times too.

The ones at the airport in Munich, Germany are stronger than the ones we use in the US I think. Every freaking time I'm over there, a empty gum wrapper in my pocket makes the darn thing go off... so they search me. Last time it was only like 1/10 of a wrapper... I guess it went through the washing machine or something when I washed my pants. sad.gif
But I've never gotten stopped by the detectors here or anywhere else in Europe. Someone's lacking security. shifty.gif
