I can exit it and still scan my comp with AVG. But I was wondering does it still work even though it states that.

It'll still work, but the virus definitions just won't be updated anymore and your computer will be more vulnerable.

But you really should upgrade to 7.5.

And you can just go ahead and download and install 7.5. It'll probably uninstall 7.1 automatically.
