Okay.. I'm wanting to put all the music I have on my ipod onto my new laptop... but I'm afraid of trashing it out. Most of my music (all mp3 files) are from limewire. Is it possible that some of the mp3 files could have viruses or spyware in them... or is that impossible? I just wanted to make sure they'd be 100% safe before putting them on my laptop.
Thanks!

http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/127357http://ask-leo.com/is_it_possible_to_get_a...c_download.htmlhttp://askbobrankin.com/limewire_file_sharing.htmlThose links should help. Yes, it's possible to get a virus, because it's sharing files from other people, who might also be transferring viruses on the files. You know, files can contain anything.

Thank you!

Even mp3 files? I'm 100% all the files are mp3's. But can mp3's have other things hidden in them? :[

how bout you not worry about it, your laptop is bad enough that it won't make a difference if you have a virus or two

Well, it's
very unlikely that an MP3 file would be trashed with a virus, but there's always that little percentage of a chance. I think it would be fine to transfer your music.

I speak from experience.
I downloaded all my songs from Limewire and one of them had a virus. Or maybe more than one. My laptop got infected and i had to get it fixed and lost my computer for a whole week, there being so many infected files. It cost quite a bit too... Anyway, I transferred songs to my iPod and it's safe, on the iPod at least. iPods/mp3s have some sort of software i guess, that if there's a virus, i don't think it will affect it. My iPod is fine and my computer's clean. Just watch out with what you're downloading.

^ Really? So you transferred everything on your ipod back to your computer, and no problems?
Yay!

Limewire is the WORST thing you could do to your computer. It's the number one reason why most computer's crash. I suggest buying the damn songs or listening to them on imeem.com for free. It's not worth fucking your computer over.

I would suggest you switch to either BitTorrent or Frostwire. I know with Frostwire, there is still a chance of downloading an infected file, but I'm pretty sure it's less than Limewire.
Limewire completely destroyed my other computer. X_x

^ Eeeek. Yeah.

I'm definately NOT installing any type of music downloader program on my laptop. I'm just wondering if its safe to put music thats on my ipod (that was originally downloaded from limewire from my old computer... may contain viruses) onto the laptop.
I'm just afraid that the viruses could be in the songs, on my ipod.

>_> If there was a virus, after you downloaded it, wouldn't there be a message? Jw. Or if you scanned your whole music folder?

^ Idk. Well on my old computer, where I originally downloaded all the music, I had tons of spyware and virus programs... but none of them really caught anything. But I know
somehow I got viruses from it... either from the song files themselves, or from the Limewire program.
Can viruses even be inside song files (mp3's)?
Gahhh I give up.

^ anything is possible, i guess, but i'm not sure.
i tried installing limewire. it said that it couldn't complete because there was a corrupted file, and/or virus. or something to that effect, i don't remember the exact message. but thenn.... my friend was able to download it for me, and it worked..
well, i don't know. i think you should just buy it, safest thing there is to do. plus, you can't get caught, cos buying music is legal.

well. technically, a real mp3 can't have a virus but u can always make a virus, incorporate into a file and change the extension to .mp3 making it look like a mp3 file but it really just a hidden way to hid a virus.
But if the songs are all real (meaning they are actually songs, u don't have to worry about it having a virus in them ((I have over 15,000 songs in my collection and no virus in any of them))

I once looked up Torrents and I heard they're not very safe... I downloaded a song file originally from a torrent site and that may have been the cause of my computer problems, but I never totally know what caused the trouble.
But yes, my iPod is in perfect condition with the limewire songs.
