I dont know if this goes in Lounge or Debate because i really didnt want to debate on it. I just wanted to see peoples opinions. If it needs to be moved then someone move it please.

Anyways, I was sitting in my first period at school and theres this girl who is 16 in my class and she is married. I think the husband is somewhere between 18-21. Shes really happy with it and its not like her husband is a bad guy.

I just wanted to know what you think about it.

You can't get married in high school. Can you ? huh.gif
It depends because If you like had a baby while fooling around and decided to keep it and start a family.. Then that's when It would be okay. A person should wait and make sure your partner is really "the one".
FlipFace
Yeah. You can get married in high school. You have to be at least 16 years of age and have parental consent in order to get married. There are actual a few more couples at my school who are engaged.
a painefull euphoria
i dont really see a problem with it unless its like a full on lets have baby kinda marrige. beacause i would think you would want to establish a career before you even put kids in the picture..

besidesthey have it good they get the tax ride offs, and the insurance premium deduction [for teenage drivers ] all because they are married
voguelove
this should probably go..either in relationships or debate.

personally, i dont think it's a great idea. i mean, youre new. at everything. dating, boys, sex. why would you put yourself up to marrying someone who hasnt even gone to college yet?

id say wait. till the pair is finacially stable. and until they have college degrees.
mona lisa
I don't know. I have a friend who got married to her boyfriend I believe when she was still in high school. (She's in first-year college right now.) She's actually taking her marriage and married life seriously and I really admire her attitude and persistence. She's had a lot of family issues arise because of this marriage but she says she's really happy. But I don't think most of today's teenagers are ready for marriage. It's all about the sex, you know. rolleyes.gif How many teenagers do you know can hold on to their words, especially when marriage (and possibly kids) is added to their lives?

College perhaps (and even that can be considered a stretch by some), but not high school.

And I don't think there's going to be someone in this world who is the one for you; almost anyone can be the one if you both really work on the relationship. Though that may lead to many sacrifices that many would not be willing to give up.. but I digress.
multifaceted
i think it is kind of too young.

but if someone is ready for the responsibilities then be my guest
xhidethedetails
I think its to young.
But my old friend and second cousin are both engaged.
My cousin is 17 and my old friend is 16.

I know this girl who's 13 and she's engaged to come 19 year old guy. shrug.gif I know for sure that there's will never work out. mellow.gif

Personally, I don't think someone should get married during high school. There probably are a select few that are ready, but like Mona said, it's all about the sex.
Stefanny
no.
marriage = baby
baby in high school?
geez, how would you get through college o_o
medicineforluck
it isnt something wrong
it just would be really hard to get through college and supporting your baby (if they/you have one)

If it's real, that's all that matters.
If it's real, they're lucky to have found eachother so early.

Otherwise, not a good idea.

Ideally I think everyone should wait till they're done with their high school educations before getting married, but if they are that in love and are that sure that they'll be happy together, they can marry if they want to. Just as long as they don't have children before college.
Sephora.

Actually, that's if they choose to have a baby.

I actually don't think it's fine because... well... they still have to get their education.
KissMe2408
hmmm...wow, that is pretty young to be married to someone. . . .
I don't know about that. . . I couldn't do it, but I guess if you've found the right person
I hope she doesn't regret it.

[If another mod prefers it in the Lounge they can move it back]

Nah, just because you get married doesn't mean you NEED to have a baby.
FlipFace
On the subject of babies and high school marriage. In some states if a teen 16 or older and has a baby and wants to marry the father of that baby then she doesnt need parental consent.
Intercourse.
^Yea and in other states if the guy leaves the girl after he got her pregant he can go straight to jail. Also in many states parents can sign this thing and give their kids permission pretty much to go get married once their 16.

Personally, I've always had the goal to get out of high school and get out of college before getting married. So at least you always have an education to fall back on if you wanted to get a job or if something bad ever happened.

SimplicityGirl
Well...personally I think it's a bit too young. I'd say wait until they're both done with their education and are financially stable before marrying each other.

While me and my bf aren't engaged or married, we've talked about it. And we both agreed that we'll get married after we are both done with our university education and have a stable job before taking things further.
MiSSxMELON
There's a senior at my school that is pregnant with her second child, married to the guy, and lives with him in their own house. She said she always wanted to start a family young, and she doesn't regret anything. I think that it was completely her decision, and not an "accident". And if it's what she wants, then there's nothing wrong about it to me.
michellerrific
I don't really see anything wrong with it because this is something that she is actually prepared for and ready to live like that. Although it may alter her education somewhat, it seems like she knows what she's doing and if she can maintain it that way, then i think it's alright.
kevincredible
i don't see it as a matter of age so much. you know, its their life so whatever, but I do think its pretty unsafe for a kid to grow up in that kind of environment. I mean, the parents might be fine with it, but why should the kid have to deal with that kind of situation.

I agree with this.

it seems really young because marriage carries all the implications of having a family and being an adult. unlike with regular teenage relationships, if you get in a fight or things don't work out, you can't break up or runaway from it. you're legally bound to someone.

on facebook, lots of people put down 'engaged' or 'married' and i think it's rather silly because it ties you down to something you aren't sure about.
brownsugar
Nah.

Our adult brains don't even fully develop until we're 21. Why would you make a bigass decision like that so early? Damn. They can be in love but they don't have to get married.
me1issaaaa
I know quite a few people who are my age and are engaged. I, personally, think it's kind of stupid. My mother got engaged to dad when she was a junior, and had been out of school for only a few months when they got married. My dad was 5 years older, and they almost got divorced because of money problems from marrying so young. Luckily they made it, and are still happily together nearly 25 years later. I could never ever do that... I don't think many other people will be as lucky.

I agree. People can change a lot after high school, during college, and after college. Since a lot of kids in high school and even during college are dependent on their parents, they don't know yet what it's like to not have them to fall back on - emotionally, financially, whatever. That time period in life forces someone to get his/her priorities straight, and then it might turn out that the relationship isn't of the highest priority.

In my opinion it's BAD.
Means lots of idiots going around
getting married and having kids and way
too much responcibilities and work to handle.

I don't think it's such a wonderful idea!
Although whoever's handling the devorce (sp?)
cases are getting a lot of business.

Think about it. If there was a couple mature
enough to manage their relationship well + get
married in high school + have it work out.
If they're THAT mature then they can obviously
wait a couple of years before letting something
like marriage happen.

High School Marriage = SO un-necessary!

yeah I agree... It must take a lot of maturity to get married at that young of an age. And besides, what's the hurry?
WarMachine
This is pretty common in the military with young Marines that are 17, just about to turn 18 and who have sweeties back in their hometown. Oddly enough, I've seen it work. If they're both mature enough to handle all the hardships of marriage then by all means.
xxpimpjuice1227x
viva las vegas! lol, maybe they had a drive thru wedding.
mystline
mellow.gif That's very interesting to me. I've never, in my life, heard of anyone that young getting married. Well, heard, yes, but haven't seen one of those couples yet. XD I think it's good as long as their relationship goes well. If not, a total waste of time, especially when you're still in school. happy.gif

I don't think getting married at 16 is a smart idea..

acutally you can. i have a friend who just got married over christmas break. though she's 18 & he's 19 or 20 i'm not quite sure. but she's still a high school student.
i also know of other girls in my school that are under the age of 18 and married or are soon to be married...pretty krazy.
oXMuhNirvanaXo
what ever makes them happy. I know a few people that got marryed at the age of 16 and are still together at the age of 50. They love eachother.. So, what ever makes them happy. I have no problem with it. It's not me. Why should I care?
pinayprincess
wtf.. isnt that illegal?
pinay_cherry
I had a friend who was engaged to a guy who was 3years older. That was since she was like 5 years old. Then last year[she was 14] he was going out with this one chick and he got her pregnant. So my friend got the engagement canceled and is now engaged to a better guy. :]

It's uhhh whatcha ma call it. The arranged marriage. But my friend seems happy. Hopefully it goes well. But things like that still exsist.
If someone has a kid with someone in high school, they better stick with them. But marriage in high school seems so very unsure. especially with your whole lives ahead of you. :P
But love is what matters. It should. :]
