At a time of
of high bandwidth for internet users, why do website builders still worry about keeping webpages they build under 100k??

Moved to website help? Is it a question you want everyone to answer or are you just wondering?

probably because even thought they can use so much space, it doesnt change the fact that there are users who can't download all of that info very fast, and it leaves them with big empty pages to stare at for minutes at a time. Its mostly a consideration. and really you can make your whole site under 100K but then have media like videos and photos that are larger, but the browser doesnt have to download those when they initially reach the page.
