I love how it has maps and everything.

Saw it. Looks a little too wide and too feature rich to call it a phone.
Price is quite high too for a phone. They shouldn't market it as a phone.

That's an awesome phone. But it's really more than a phone, so I don't consider it one.
I would have gotten one if I hadn't just bought a 30GB video iPod. =(

^ I don't think that anyone would dare to bring it outdoors.
Other than that, it looks pretty neat. I think that it's too high tech to be called a phone, but I've actually never seen it in real life yet. It also looks pretty wide. I wouldn't consider buying it though. I know that it'd be REALLY expensive.

[Which most likely, it is]

My thoughts exactly. As cool as it sounds it would be a complete waste of money for me to buy something like it. Also, it looks like something I would have to be delicate with and I'm not delicate with my cell phones at all.

I wasn't that interested in the iPhone hype to begin with; I use a cell phone to make phone calls (gasp!) and that's about it. Having said that, I was impressed by the iPhone—in a geek sort of way. It's pretty cool. Not cool enough for me to buy one, because I have no use for almost all of the features, and there are other phones with pretty interfaces that are a lot cheaper; but for a combination cell phone/music player/address book/navigator/mobile web browser/mobile email device/PDA, it's pretty cool.
I'm mostly impressed that it runs OS X. Granted, some stuff must've been stripped out, but still, that's pretty nice. I'm hoping that means that third-party apps can run on the iPhone—and without much modification. That would be truly innovative.

I don't like it really. Plus I just recently got a new cell phone [RAZR (sucks IMO.)] a few months ago. Plus I just recently bought a new iPod, which in fact I knew this would happy. Last time I first got my iPod mini, like a few weeks after the iPod nano came out.
I just can't keep up, but for once I actually dislike the "new" product.

Well iPhone actually is not the legal name of the product out now. When saying iPhone,
you are actually referring to Linksys VoIP hand held phone. I can not wait to see how this one works out in court. The other thing I like about Apple is once again, they are improving something that has been around for years, and they plan on taking all the credit for it. The touch screen on phones have been around as long as PalmOne has been making phones. I love it, it makes me laugh when hard core Mac"ers" talk about it. I do plan on buying one though, although it will most likely come out for Cingular only, which is a mistake really. If they do that, no one around here will be able to use one, considering that Cingular looses at everything down here. Oh well, it will be interesting to see this will work out none the less.

Multi-touchiPhone features the most revolutionary user interface since the mouse. It’s an entirely new interface based on a large multi-touch display and innovative new software that lets you control everything using only your fingers. So you can glide through albums with Cover Flow, flip through photos and email them with a touch, or zoom in and out on a section of a web page — all by simply using iPhone’s multi-touch display.
Intelligent KeyboardiPhone’s full QWERTY soft keyboard lets you easily send and receive SMS messages in multiple sessions. And the keyboard is predictive, so it prevents and corrects mistakes, making it easier and more efficient to use than the small plastic keyboards on many smartphones.
OS XAll the power and sophistication of the world’s most advanced operating system — OS X — is now available on a small, handheld device that gives you access to true desktop-class applications and software, including rich HTML email, full-featured web browsing, and applications such as widgets, Safari, calendar, text messaging, Notes, and Address Book. iPhone is fully multi-tasking, so you can read a web page while downloading your email in the background. This software completely redefines what you can do with a mobile phone.
WirelessiPhone uses quad-band GSM, the global standard for wireless communications. It also supports Cingular’s EDGE network, 802.11b/g Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 2.0 with EDR, which links to Apple’s new, remarkably compact Bluetooth headset.
Built-in Advanced SensorsiPhone’s accelerometer detects when you rotate the device from portrait to landscape, then automatically changes the contents of the display, so you immediately see the entire width of a web page or a photo in its proper landscape aspect ratio.
The proximity sensor detects when you lift iPhone to your ear and immediately turns off the display to save power and prevent inadvertent touches until iPhone is moved away.
An ambient light sensor automatically adjusts the display’s brightness to the appropriate level for the current ambient light, thereby enhancing the user experience and saving power at the same time.

Seems interesting. I'll let the first wave of iPhones go out first seeing as there is always mess ups in the beginning. Plus, in July I can upgrade my phone since it will be two years so I could get a discount if they make it exclusive to cingular. Lots of people talk about people stealing them. Where I come from stealing isnt a major thing. So it kinda sounded weird when I read those posts.

all those "awesome" features are down-the-drain if one function breaks and dysfunctions; it looks like it can break easily. not spending that much money on a phone. ridiculous!

Haha my dad spent a whole afternoon telling me about this phone, he said if I wanted it I had to buy it though. Or I could have his old Nokia. My dad was a bit mad that cingular had to change the whole voicemail stuff just so cingular could be the only ones to sell this phone.
I'm still thinking about whether not to get it or not. Its definitiely got its pros. I like how it has the sensor in it so when you put it up to your face the screen cuts off so it don't touch any buttons. I hate fingerprints though

the voicemail thing is pretty cool but its only on the iphone no other phone does that. i dont think cingular changed everything just because of iphone.
for you people that dont know the iphone's voicemail is actually displayed on the screen so you dont have to sit and listen to each persons voicemail, you just have to click on the number you want to hear and there you go.

The iPhone is amazing... I already have a really nice phone(samsungt809) and a video ipod but yet im still looking forward to getting this. The phone/mp3player/internet device is revolutionary, its not just the average touchscreen you can find on other smartphones/pdas. It has Multi-touch, which refers to the screens ability to differentiate between each touch you make, eliminating errors. This also allows you to flick,drag,and pinch not just select. Plus with all the censors it comes equipt with it's pretty amazing. The only concerns i have are that i may drop/break it, or something better will come out a couple months after i have already purchased it. Im not to worried about it getting stolen because thats not something common where i live, plus im hoping that along with google maps ,the device will have gps capabilities. It starts shipping in June.
Here are some figures based off cingular existing plan and options....
No Data Plan - $0.00/mo - 24 Month Contract Total = $0
Cheapest Plan 450mins - $39.99/mo - 24 Month Contract Total = $960
iPhone w/ 24mo Contract = $500
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Total = $1460
Cheapest Data Plan 5MB - $19.99/mo - w/24 Month Contract = $480
Cheapest Plan 450mins - $39.99/mo - w/24 Month Contract = $960
iPhone w/ 24mo Contract = $500
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Total = $1940
Cheapest Data Plan 5MB - $19.99/mo - w/24 Month Contract = $480
2nd Plan 900min w/ unlimted nights&weekends - $59.99/mo - w/24 Month Contract = $1440
iPhone w/ 24mo Contract = $500
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Total = $2420
Pricey, but it my case worth it because i see my self using this everyday. I don't think id need to computer for anything besides wordprocessing, designing, or large file downloads.

Yea I aready knew that, but for cingular to have the iphone they had to change their voicemail so it could work on the iphone, therefore changing the voicemail on all cingulars phones. Of course it doesn't do the same thing as the iphone on the other phones, thats common sense

But for some reason, I dont like the iPhone ..And I don't know why..haha. I think they should come out w/ something brand new..I feel like theyre just updating from the motorolla phone..err, iunno.
