I like Morgane's look, but I hate her walk. Especially on the VS show. She looked like a bobble-head doll with a small head instead of a big one.

Feb 24 2007, 01:26 AM
^ I didn't think hers was too bad. It was worldsss better than Angela Lindvall's walk. Her legs went over each other like two feet with each step, and she just kept on waving her trains to the side

yeah. I don't think that Morgane should have been picked for VS. She looks too young for it.

I didn't think she looked too young... She looks about 20? Jeisa Chiminazzo probably looked the youngest. Even though Miranda Kerr has a baby face, you can still tell she's not as young.

I dunno, I thought Jessica Stam worked for the Pink collection... the other ones were ok.
I thought that it was weird that Hana soupkova (sp?) and Julia Stegner were there. Their looks (at least faces) are a bit high fashiony for VS. especially Natasha Poly. I wonder why they chose her for catalogue

Thank you for clarifying, though. :]
Just wondering, but what's wrong with VS bringing high fashion models in for just small stuff? Like for perfumes? I mean, it'd certainly make them money and raise the model's popularity. [/ignorance about fashion world]
angelrevelation
Feb 27 2007, 11:24 PM
it's possible that they could make more money, but it's not guaranteed. Because the models are high fashion. they're "meant" for high fashion, because of their looks. High fashion models are usually very unique looking and more waif like. most of the VS models are more commercial looking, so they'd appeal to the VS consumers, or the larger public, more.
Like, look at Adriana Lima

versus Hana Soukupova

I think some of them should be able to adapt though.

I looooove Morgane Dubled. Yeah, she does look strange in the VS show (my brother thinks she's super hot, haha). However, she looks AMAZING in the Armani Prive couture show, wearing the mint-green [wedding] dress with the flowery embellishments across the chest and neckline (that Beyonce recently sported at the Oscars, and, for the record, Morgane looks way better than Beyonce does).

I don't mind VS using high fashion models for their annual fashion show that airs on TV. More power to them. The models still look great, and it's refreshing to see a taller, slender girl compared to the rest of the girls with humongous badonkadonks.
I would, however, mind if VS models were used for high fashion shows. In fact, I'd be downright pissed off. But that never happens anyway.
Anyway.
Am I the only person that notices that Julia Stegner has this weird thing with her mouth? Sometimes in the shows, it looks off-centered. Asymmetrical, like she got punched in the face or something. Okay, I'm exaggerating, but not by a lot.
I'm not such a fan of Hana Soukupova (she is weirdly skinny and not all that great-looking).
And yes, Heather Marks is Canadian as well, as is Jessica Stam and Coco Rocha (Vancouverite, woot!).

That was a great picture of Morgane. Actually, Ajuma from VS does high fashion too. And not to mention that Gisele has walked a few shows this season. No, Julia Stegner does have a weird look occasionally. And I don't really like Snejana a whole lot on runways.
Gigi
Mar 5 2007, 03:36 AM
Snejana is alright, I prefer her in print more than on runways.
Ah, right, Gisele does walk the high fashion runways, although she did start out as a high fashion model, so maybe she doesn't count? I don't know. She irks me a bit.
I think what I meant by "VS model" were those that exclusively model for VS. Models like Heidi Klum, Tyra Banks (former model, but model nonetheless) Adriana Lima, Alessandra Ambrosio, Ana Beatriz Barros. I mean, apart from stuff like VS, Maybelline, the Petrelli calendar and Sports Illustrated, they don't really get any other work.
misoshiru
Mar 5 2007, 12:52 PM
Actually, I think Adriana Lima walked a few high fashion runways a long time ago. Okay, I just checked, and apparently she walked for Valentino, Christian Lacroix and others in the 90s. But obviously not anymore. And Tyra did high fashion before jumping to VS.
Gigi
Mar 6 2007, 02:54 AM
^ Yeah, they all started out high fashion (pretty much all of them anyway). I mean, Christy Turlington, Linda Evangelista, Tyra Banks, Naomi Campbell, Claudia Schiffer, Cindy Crawford...the Greats. They were the muses of the entire fashion industry. Then, they sort of trickled down into legendary status, and started retiring from the runway.
So did Gisele Bundchen and Adriana Lima (something in my brain tells me that Adriana has done some sort of print ad for LV, but I can't pinpoint it. And it had to have been during the early 90s). But you know, not anymore.
Not now, since the whole Brazilian wave has come and gone. Now it's more of an European aesthetic, the waif girl with an alien-like face...there's no place for Brazilian hotties like those of VS. Maybe in the future, but not now.
misoshiru
Mar 6 2007, 03:44 PM
Well, Caroline Trentini is Brazilian, and so is Cintia Dicker. I mean, it's not about the whole full-figured thing anymore. I actually like the whole waif-like look.
What do you all think about Catherine McNeill (one L or two?) allegedly the newest "it" girl?
Gigi
Mar 9 2007, 05:42 PM
Oh, well what I meant by "Brazilian wave" was not girls that are Brazilian, per se, but those who fit into the Brazilian cliche: tan, full lips, smouldering eyes, smaller chest and wider hips.
But yes, I do agree...I sort of do prefer the waif-like models on the runway. I don't mean to be blunt, but when you come down to it, models are hangers for clothing. A more waif-like girl would showcase the clothing better, clothing would hang better. However, I do enjoy the annual VS show just as much as anybody else. Hahaha. =)
Some vids to check out (it's always so rare to see models in action):
http://www.fashionfile.com/displayMoments.htmlCatherine McNeil? I actually quite like her...although she's not as striking as the more unusual models nowadays. She has amazing legs, too.
angelrevelation
Mar 10 2007, 12:23 AM
^ I agree that the waif models look better, but they have to have SOME sort of shape... I think that some models like Snejana and Freha are too thin and bony. Lily Donaldson's a bit on the thin side too, or maybe it's just her proportions that are weird. I prefer models like Caroline Trentini and Daria.
I liked the Daria and Natalia fashion file videos ^_^

but then again, thats just me.
imo i think the whole "eastern-european small town village girl" fad is fleeting (sasha, snejana, vladya, other eastern european models). The next new fleet of models (i hear) are cool city girls, like coco rocha, agyness, georgia frost, etc.

I am absolutely in love with Agyness.

I have a love-hate relationship with Daria. I don't like her on runway, but occasionally in editorials she blows me away.
Snejana's gained a bit of weight, but still looks too bony. Freja's looks much better, Natasha Poly on the other hand is another skeleton.
I don't like Vlada. I think she's on the same level with Snejana and Natasha - walking skeletons. Especially her eyes on the runway. They're just too dead.
Coco Rochas and Agyness Deyn is love. :D

Sasha has always been one of my favorite models. I hate it when people call her a wannabe gemma ward. They do have similar features, but i'd choose sasha over gemma everyday. Her campaigns for prada are to die for (fw 07 was amazing).
And out of the whole new wave of cool city girls, I prefer Georgia Frost over all of them. I'm just really tired of the whole androgynous look (agyness) and I think coco rocha's features are way too sharp for my taste.

Mar 18 2007, 12:05 AM
^ Okay, I totally thought she was a man at first. Honestly.
There's a difference between actually looking like a man, though, and being androgynous. I think androgyny can have its pros. The mystery of a woman looking and dressing like a man evokes images of power and confidence, which, I think, is a good thing.
Daria can be both androgynous and amazingly soft. I don't think she's overrated at all, she's definitely deserved all the praise that she's gotten from the people that she's worked with. And they should know best. I admire her most for her work ethic and how she carries herself - not as a demanding "won't get out of bed for less than $10,000 a day" kind of person, but as a respectful, professional model.
Piva Piva...such a cute name, haha.

I like Daria, but she's not one of my favorites. Especially when she did the Lancome campaign. Her pictures were WAY overbrushed, and that totally turned me off. I think she's definitely more feminine than masculine. I think Cecilia looks like a little boy in terms of masculinity and androgynous looks.

not to mention that she has the body of a little boy.

Haha. Evangelista! Oh, but I'll always associate it with Melrose from now on. Especially how horrible that photo was.

Models nowadays arent unique , they all look if not the same than very similar. The twiggy era and the Cindy Crawford era was the heyday of the quintessential Model.
