As a Christian, i was taught that yes, it is a sin because the devil tempts us in many ways and it is our job as a Christian to avoid temptation and serve God, wholly and purely. If you give into that temptation (in this case, masturbation), then yes, you have committed sin and need to ask for God to forgive you.

technically, it is a sin.. since it is a part of lust, which is a big sin towards God. it's not wrong to be tempted. we're only humans. it's just the outcome of that temptation that matters. and another thing, sinning doesn't bring u to hell. we are all sinners without a doubt. if you accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, you will go to heaven. because no matter how much u sin, Jesus' grace covers our sins so God is able to see past them. that's why God is soo awesome and worthy of praise no matter how many times we betray and sin against Him. with His forgiveness in mind, though, He should NEVER ever be taken for granted. who are we to do that to someone who loves us unconditionally? something to think about..

Honestly, I'm not sure. But I've read what the vatican ruled a while ago and it was apperntly a sin. But that's just the vatican. They also ruled that if you didn't go to church every sunday you were commiting a mortal sin and would therefore go to hell...but a few years later ruled against that. I've grown up Roman Catholic, and you know what I've learned? The Church isn't always right. You Make your own decisions sometimes.
