What are the first few things you think about that can finish the sentence "Love is..."
I'm not asking for a definition (I know there are a few threads about the definition, but this isn't the same thing). I'm just asking for something simple that you associated with love. Not "true love" or "in love" or whatever. Just ..Love. Simple as that...
For me, the first few things that come to my mind are:
"Love is not having to say you're sorry" Yeah. That quote from "Love Story" always gets me. I heart it.
"Love is unconditional" When you love somebody, you don't expect them to do anything for you in return or love you back no matter what.
"Love is patient, Love is kind, It does not envy, it does not boast,... "

Hmm, I'd say love is.. that no matter what happens, you'll still care for the person and be happy for them, even if you're not in the picture. Yup. I think that's right. =]

Like you said, Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking...
Or that song. All you need is love...love is all you need.
I think it's on a commercial?

Here is something I'm working on... I like this thread... I think I have so much more to add too love.
Love is doing what’s best:
You don’t always know what’s best, and the only thing that you can do is try your best. It takes practice. You need to learn how to love your partner by finding their needs. This is one reason why communication is so important (I’ll talk about communication later). At times love is even doing what’s best for you. This means that you have to know who you are too.
Love is a choice:
You make the choice to love. You make the choice to do what’s best. Although love can be associated with a feeling, it isn’t always going to be. Here’s an incredible saying, “"Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." Now that’s a difficult choice.
Love is a sacrifice:
In many cases you have to do things that you don’t want to do because you love someone. This is a sacrifice. Similar to when someone hurts your feelings and you forgive them even though you feel like they should suffer for what they did. You don’t want to forgive them, but you do it anyways. You’re sacrificing your own want for their need of your forgiveness. This is a good example because I’m sure many of you can relate to it.
Love is difficult:
Here’s another great saying taken from the movie The Weather Man, “Do you know that the harder thing to do and the right thing to do are usually the same thing? Nothing that has meaning is easy. "Easy" doesn't enter into grown-up life.” If love was easy, then what would be the point? It’s easy to love during the good times, what about the hard times when the choices we make are difficult? It wouldn’t mean anything if it was always easy.

Love is always patient and kind. It is neer jealous. Love is never boastful or conceted. It is never rude or selfish. It does not take pleasure in other peoples sins, but delights in the truth. It is always ready to excuse, to trust, to hope, and to eudure whatever comes.- a walk to remember <3

Love is..not being able to get that special person out of your head.
Love is thinking about them all day.
Love is your stomach doing flips when you think of their name.
love is looking at them and knowing your meant for eachother even if they dont know it yet.
love is wanting them not because of their looks but because of who they are.
love is saying i need you becasue i want you not i want you because i need you.
love is liking them over everybody else. and choosing them no matter what.
i could go on but i want to leave some for everyone else.

I agree with you to an extent, but you kind of have to see the quote in context, because it's pretty touching.
The couple is fighting and the girl runs out of the house. After realizing that he was being irrational, the guy runs after her and looks for her all night. When he can't find her, he goes home and sees her sitting on the front porch, crying. Then, he goes to her and is all "I'm so sorry..." and she hushes him and says "Love is not having to say you're sorry."
Basically, ... in any "everyday" relationship, when you hurt somebody, they expect you to apologize, and many times, you do. Friends, teachers, peers, etc. always seem to want you to admit you're wrong and you feel that you need to tell them that you're sorry (whether you are or not) in order for your relationship to move on. But when you love somebody, you don't expect a sorry and you don't need them to say sorry... you keep loving them. It kind of shows that love is so strong that it surpasses pride issues and the petty nature of most people to always be in the right.
The theme of "Love is not having to say you're sorry" comes back when the girl dies (you learn that she dies in the first line of the story so no, I'm not ruining anything) and the guy's father goes to see him. His father apologizes for not supporting them and for not being there for him when he needed him most, but he stops him and tells his father that he didn't need to tell him that he was sorry. It's a touching scene in the book and in the movie... it made me cry
Anyways... for anybody who hasn't read the book "Love Story," by Erich Segal, I'd highly recommend it. The movie is kind of old, but it's worth a watch.

Love is.....
real,
it is not just in novels or the movies
it is fact
and it is standing here
right in front of you
so if you just open your eyes
oh what a sweet discovery,
there is hope
and there is joy
and there is acceptance
so now let out all the light that collects on your plants
keep you warm
let you smile
and i will be there with this pen in my hand
to record all the while
you'll be laughing so loud
that the house would shake with sound
and everything will be as new as the day it was found
ohhhh,
love is real
it is not just in long distance commercials
or something that you thought you felt back in high school
so i will turn black and white,
become that horoscope you're reading
it predicts
that something good is on its way.
oh and i'll send you all the world
green and blue
in a box, through the mail
you can open it up hold it right in your hand
and be glad that it's there
and be glad that you're there
now you can feel all the knots in your stomach
they start to untie
and suddenly it's not so hard to say
you're alright
ohhhh,
love is real
it is not just in poetry and stories
it is truth
and it will follow you everywhere you go from now on
so if you just cast off your doubts
then your lips would answer for you
oh my darling,
when you smile,it is like a song
and i can hear it now
and i can hear it now
and i can hear it now
and i can hear it now
and i can hear it now
and i can hear it now
and i can hear it now
Yes I can...
--------
yeah. that says a lot
