If your school has a photography class or club, are you allowed to photograph digitally or do they require a manual camera?

For High School (which I'm going to next year), I was planning to join the photography class, but they dont allow digital photography. :( Only 35mm cameras allowed. Poopy.

My school has both. Actually all majors are required to take a photography class. For the basic photography class you can use either type of camera. It's only for the advance courses that a 35mm cam is required.

I don't even think my school has a photography class, which sucks. And I just checked the curriculum book and we don't even have a photography club.

Wow that sucks sad.gif

I would think they would allow both if they did. But eventually I think they would make it 35mm only. I find it understanding that they would only want that though.

I'm in the Digital Photography Club in my school! We use digital cameras.
We were supposed to learn Photoshop later in the year, but we might not.

Maybe there's a Video Photography Club you could join? That's cool too.

And you can start a Digital Photography Club. That could always work.
Trinie
actually me and my friend just joined it last week. but im thinking we probably can use both.

We have two 35 mm photography classes and one digital (commercial) but you have to take the first two before you can take the third

Aww. You're hella lucky. :( It is required to have a 35mm camera, and no digital photography allowed. I hope they open up a class, or perhaps a club, with digital photography next year.

My school doesnt have any of those. We have a basic arts class that im in, where we do something different every 9 weeks. 3rd quarter we're doing photography w/ 35mm cameras. mellow.gif

I'd kill for my school to have an actual photography class.

We only have a club. I'm still saving up for a 35mm, but my digital camera takes pretty good shots as it is. I like our club, though, because we usually meet downtown and take pictures at designated areas around the city. It's sweeeeet. Then we get them showcased at this artsy coffeeshop/hangout down in the city called The Beehive. I always feel so special when my stuff is there because I hang out there all the time. laugh.gif

My school is even worse, it has to be 35mm traditional camera with BLACK&WHITE film, those films cost so friggin much and hard to find, so we might have to buy the film from school if we can't find them at the stores.
Gypsy Eyes
You can buy film at CVS. If done right, manual pictures come out much better

People who are in the photography club in my school get the privilege of taking photos during special school functions without being caught (we're not allowed to use cameras during school functions pinch.gif).

^ Your newspaper doesn't do that?

We have classes. I was in photography 1 last year and this year I am in photography 2.

It depends on the photography level.

It's mandatory to take Photography I, which is black & white. That requires the old school ghetto cameras. Then, you can go to Photography II/Digital or Photography II/Color or Digital Art. I'm currently in black & white photography. Probably the coolest class I've ever taken!

My current Middle School doesn't have any photography classes or clubs at all.
At the High School I'm planning to go to though, I heard they have a couple of photography classes plus those journalism and newpaper classes.

I heard you can use both digital or film, depending on the class.

I'll probably end up not taking any photography classes though...

For my high school first semester is black and white with manual, it's pretty cool, cause we have our own dark room and we really do everything ourselves. We spool the film into the canister and then we go all the way to developing a 5 by 7 or what not.

I suck at it though, I can't wait till next semester when it's only digital!
