Is there anyone taking AP Studio Art? (2-D Design, Drawing, etc)
It's when you have to hand in 24 portfolio pieces at the end of the year for the AP board or whatever to "grade."

If so... what's your concentration?

I'm taking 2D Design and my concentration's "Masks" in the literal and abstract meaning of the word.





How do people "grade" a work of art, anyways? Sure, there's technique, but they also grade based on depth, creativity, and perception. IDK, I just think that different artists see things differently and something that's creative in the student's point of view, a grader might see as weird.

Grr we don't even have that class at my school.

Our school is recently evolving with art. I find more suburban areas forcus less on arts and more on sports, then Urban areas which really focus on art. I have gone to school in both places both private and public.

but besides the fact we just got our NAHS like NHS but National art Honors Society. We just started that and i was able to walk on graduation with a different tassle. a rainbow colored one. lol it was cool though.

nope we dont have any AP classes for art yet.

i was going to take it this year but i decided to start off with advanced art. i don't really have to take it bcause i already got my AP art credit with art history butttt i just like to draw. :)

We have something similar with photography, my concentration being fashion. It's the same system.

i did 2d design last year and im taking drawing and 3d this year... last year my concentration was portraits. im actually considering doing it agian this year because i love drawing people =). i have no idea for what to do for 3d though.

im suppose to take that class this year but my orchrestra class got in the way so i couldnt T-T

I grade artwork on the quality of the artwork. Quality depends on the artist. Some artists are better than others.

Things that I look for:

- Effort: Were you passionate about your artwork. Did you love your artwork. Did you put your heart and soul into it. (example: you can paint a canvas black by dumping a bucket black paint all over it, and then you can paint a canvas black by using brush strokes and express your feelings in each and every stroke.)
- Achievment: Did you accomplish what you were trying to achieve.


I feel that this art must be graded this way because you have to grade it based upon the ability of each individual.

My school only has one regular art class, where we focus on multiple things throughout the year. We do drawing, photography, print making, and painting for 9 weeks each. :[

You do ap art grading? Cause they sure as hell don't grade like that.

Moved to School. I figured I'd move it here since this is a topic on an actual class and not art itself. And please keep in mind that one- or two-word responses are considered spam here.

yeah, that's how I grade artwork, because I realize that everyone has diferent talents. If someone who sucks at drawing makes a drawing to the best of their ability, and someone who is great at drawing makes a drawing and puts in 50% of their efforts. Although the better artists artwork may look better even though they only put in 50%, they still deserve a grade lower than the person who put all their effort into their piece.

Well, you're obviously not an AP Grader.

They grade the artwork based on the entire content... creativity, originality, technique, all that.

They don't say "oh,... well... you're not as talented, so I'll be easier on you"

At the end of the day, the most talented and the most hard-working will be the one to get a 5.

Or maybe a 4. It's almost freaking impossible to score a 5.

I have never heard of a ap grader basing your score on effort. It's based on talent and compostion among other things, but not effort.

I'm currently taking 3D studio art, gosh its hard. My concentration is abstract. I cut myself twice using them tools, it really fun but...hard work.

My teacher also told us APcollegeboard grade on technique and originality, not effort.
