So...I was on my myspace..and my friend posted this bulliten..and I found it very disturbing, so I thought I'd share..I tried searching for a topic on it..but I came up with nothing related to it..but if there is already a topic on this..feel free to close or merge it or something. I don't know if it's true or not...but if somebody made up the stories..then... pinch.gif I thought I'd put it in NEWS...because..well..idk..it seemed like it fit there..but you can move it if you find it more appropiate somewhere else.

well..anyways...here's what the bulliten said:

MDonalds, Chuck E Cheese, Discovery Zone, Burger King... Some of you might not be parents, but you may have nieces, nephews, grandchildren or friends with children. This will pertain to you too. As I read the following, my heart sank. I urge each and every one of you to pass this on to as many people as you can. I cannot stress how important this is!

This is very disturbing news. In addition to the following true story...
One son lost his watch, and was very upset. We dug and dug in those balls, trying to find the watch.

Instead, we found vomit, food, feces, and other stuff I do not want to discuss. I went to the manager and raised hell. Come to find out, the ball pit is only cleaned out once a month. I have doubts that it is even done that often. My kids will never play in another ball pit. Now read this:

PRETTY SCARY!!

Hi. My name is Lauren Archer, my son Kevin and I lived in Midland,TN. On October 2nd, 1999 I took my only son to McDonald's for his 3rd birthday.

After he finished lunch, I allowed him to play in the ball pit. When he started whining later on, I asked him what was wrong, he pointed to the back of his pull-up and simply said "Mommy, it hurts." I couldn't find anything wrong with him at that time. I bathed him when we got home, and it was at that point when I found a welt on his left buttock. Upon investigating, it seemed as if there was something like a splinter under the welt. I made an appointment to see the doctor the next day, but soon
he started vomiting and shaking, then his eyes rolled back intohis
head.

From there, we went to the emergency room. He died later that night. It turned out that the welt on his buttock was the tip of a hypodermic needle that had broken off inside. The autopsy revealed that Kevin had died from a heroine overdose. The next week, the police removed the balls from the ball pit. There was rotten food, several hypodermic needles: some full, some used; knives, half-eaten candy, diapers, feces, and the stench of urine.

If a child is not safe in a child's play area then where? You can find the article on Kevin Archer in the October 10,1999 issue of the Midland Chronicle.

Please forward this to all loving mothers, fathers and anyone who loves and cares for children!

Don't think it's just McDonald's either or that this is something that just started. When my oldest son who is now 9 was small the area Burger King closed their play area for awhile for "remodeling" because in another town there had been an incident similar to the one described above that happen @ a Burger King.

A little boy had been playing in a ball pit & started complaining of his legs hurting. He later died too. He was found to have snake bites all over his legs & buttocks. When they cleaned the ball pit they found that there was a copperhead nest in the ball pit. He had suffered numerous bites from a very poisonous snake.

....after reading this, i'm kind of afraid to let my little sister play in the play areas..because she plays in them..A LOT XD.gif

Oh my god, thats really weird.

I believe the whole food and feces thing, but snakes? Its possible though, because alot of Mcdonalds have their play areas outside; a snake could easily crawl inside.

I dont remember ever finding anything nasty in a ball pit though. I've found money and candy, but thats about it.

Anything is possible, dear.

but wow, it's scary. i will never let my little cousin to play.

that is so disturbing. luckily i remeber not liking the ball pit very much because i was afraid of bad germs in it! good thing too. i am never letting my kids play in those, or any kid i happen to be babysitting.
Serendipity
I don't even like Chuck E Cheese. It always gets stuffy and hard to breath in there. _dry.gif
But ew. Hopefully no one I know has to experience that.

I can't recall the last time I was in one of them, but I don't remember seeing any of those things. Perhaps I didn't go looking for them, but I wouldn't be surprised some of those things are in there. For some reason, I'd really doubt the validity of a statement posted as a MySpace bulletin.

It's an URBAN LEGEND. I googled it.

Yeah, IT'S NOT TRUE.

Never believe things from MySpace.
And I don't think the thing about gross stuff in the ball pit is true. I mean, it's plastic with no holes in it!
Go check a McDonald's yourself.

I'm not surprised. I mean Mcdonalds may not be the best role model out there but I highly doubt there's needles in the ball pits blink.gif

Thats kind of gross, although I never ever got in those things.

Even when I was a kid, I never liked the idea.
I would actually pretty much believe all the trash and stuff in the ball pits. People don't care about other people and what they think. Kids could go use the bathroom in it and no on would know. I know some people that work in fast food places and kids use the bathroom on the play thing all the time. Someone eventually has to go clean it up but sometimes you just don't know.

Yeah, a really easily identifiable urban legend. Please check your stories before posting them, especially if they are found as a chain letter or a myspace bulletin. More often than not, they tend to be lies. wink.gif

so this should just be closed since it isn't really news?

I was thinking that too. Yeah, you're right.
