Full Version: The best way to deal with people you dislike.

I've met some people who believe that when you don't like people, you're supposed to act venomously, letting your hatred be very visible. Others believe it's complicated, so when they don't like someone, they keep it to themselves, not wanting to stir up any uncomfortable situations.

Do you believe doing the latter makes you two-faced? Which category do you fall in, and why?

Discuss.
Azarel
It depends on the situation, really. A majority of the time, I do the former (to some degree) simply because I guess I'm a belligerent person. When I'm not in the mood to deal with stupid shit, though, I act the latter. It doesn't make me two-faced, nor do I think it would make anyone two-faced because it's not like you're outright lying and saying you acutally like them--you're just ignoring them, essentially.
BonneVache
I find being sarcastic is always fun.

i believe in pure tolerance and once that coincides with patience , understanding , and a little love and appreciation/sympathy for there differences ....it can bring you wonders . its a great atitude that all people should follow alike .

so when they don't like someone, they keep it to themselves

thats kkinda of like me, but if i really dislike them, ill probably tell someone.but i wont tell them.

I usually just keep it to myself unless he/she really bothers me enough to start something, which has happened only once or twice in my life. There will always be people I don't like but most often, I can tolerate them. I don't hate them enough to show contempt all the time. I don't think the latter makes you two-faced, for the same reason Anna stated.
AngelinaTaylor
I usually make it visible. I don't like having things of such nature hidden. Most times, I just tell the person that I don't like them; it makes everything much easier.

That used to be a problem for me a while ago, but now I find nothing difficult about telling people what I think about them. Especially if it's someone that will not affect my life much - like someone from high school.
think!IMAGINARILY
Depends. If it's like a guy that I don't like, then I'm just a bitch to them.
But that's usually if the guy used to like me and I didn't like him.
With everyone else, it's the second one. I don't show any anger to them at all because if I do, then they'll start hating me and they'll think of me as their enemy. And I don't want anymore enemies than I already do.
And I know some people who talk about me behind my back, but I don't really care. I don't want to start any fights either.
SmackaBitch3000
Hit them in the face call them a bitch and say f**k u and walk away lol j/p

I think you're making a dichotomy where one does not exist.
There is definately a happy medium between repressed dislike and blatant venomous hatred.
I believe that it is entirely possible to communicate differences and troubles amongst friends and foes alike, given reasonable and civil communication. I don't think anyone needs to go out of there way to be mean to anyone, or hide their dislike. So, I'm somewhere in the middle. whistling.gif

It is fun. but when i'm trying to be mean to someone, by saying (mean) things that one may think is sarcastic, they just think its a joke. God. I've never wanted to tell someone off until now.
Serendipity
Just be cordial. You don't have to act like you wanna throw them off a cliff or anything.

I'm sarcastic only with my friends/those I like

I'm never rude to people, no matter how badly I dislike them...

Just treat people politely, even if you can't treat them with respect...

*shrugs* that's how I do it...

Man...just kick their ass.

I'd probably tell other people I hate the person, but I wouldn't tell them in front of their face. I hate confrontation.
Simba
I actually feel that this belongs in Relationships.

Any other mods, feel free to move this if you think otherwise.

Moved to Relationships.

There's a few ways of going about it.

1. Ignore them... stay out of their environment. Plain and simple, avoid them

2. Confront them, show or tell them you dislike them, let them know it.

3. Sarcasm, alot of sarcasm in a conversation. Showin them you don't care about their conversation, their opinions, etc...

4. Last but not least, physical confrontation. This should be the last resort. Depending on how bad the situation is, violence against a person who deserve it alot of the times is justifiable.

I'm sure there's many other ways of makin it obvious you dislike that person to the point they get the clue, my ways have worked for me... but remember everyone's different and have different ways to go about.
iROCKYOURSOCKS
i hate hypocrites!!! some of my friends could like be all nice withsomeone and then bitch talk behind their backs and i hate that. when i dont like someone i avoid them and ignore them like they do not exist in my own little world. if they really piss me off they KNOW when i dont like them because i personally go up and tell them.

and sometimes i might just amuse myself by how stupid and ignorant they are and of course be very sarcastic.
AngryBaby
i kill all the people i dislike. notice that Rico hasnt showed up for awhile

STRAIGHT UP! laugh.gif thats real talk. lols. I`ll just ignore them.
pinayprincess
say it up to there face or give them the cold shoulder... when i dont like them i just stop saying hi to them... i mean my school is pretty small [600+ students] and iknow everybody [trust me i do lol] and if i dont like them , i give them a dirty look or jjust walk past them... but honestly its a waste of time to NOT like somebody.. idk for me, im cool w/ everybody.
ApocalypseAelis
I don't have the time to waste dealing with people who aren't worth it. If I dislike them, I usually just ignore or interact with them as rarely as possible. When I do have to socialize, I'm cordial.

Hatred will only lead to more hatred, and I don't need to ruin a day with anger. There's no point in a confrontation with the person; it's not like they'd change, and I'd just earn myself an enemy.
starlette
I make people aware that I don't like them without directly putting any hostility or anger towards them. Its like...a vibe I get. People know when they are no longer my friends. I mean thats people who do really mean things like call me out in a blog all over the internet and write in a song about how I'm a self addicted beauty queen. *ahem* She knows good and well I don't care for her but I have never showed any anger hater agression or even retaliation towards her. Now with people that are just rude or annoying and I don't like them, I tell them straight up what it is about ther attitude that I do not like. Because if a person is having a bad day i want to give them a chance to realize their behaviour. Cuz sometimes people are rude and dont think about it. So I try and say things like, you know that wasnt neccesary, or your tone is very offensive, or the way you are treating me is unacceptable, and if they don't get the hint I just say f**k em. Negatativity isnt worth any extra effort. If they want to be ptty or rude or whatever, you cant change them and they will try to piss you off and if you let them succeed then they win. If you stay cool and never retaliate, they just look like fools.
My Cinderella.
If I don't like someone, I'll usually keep it to myself.

HAHAHA. XD.gif Niiiiiice. Meh. As mentioned above.. I feel as if it really depends on the situation. My mood also factors into it. Sometimes I'm not up for a witty and facetious verbal battle to the death. Sometimes I just feel like walking away. shrug.gif

yeah.. same here.. i also just walk away...

i feel having a verbal battle is kinda dumb..

angelrevelation
i'm in the second... i don't think it's two faced, i just think that just because you don't like the person doesn't mean you have to make their lives any worse... that is, if they aren't bothering you, at least intentionally.
Kathleen

You have to admit you got kicks and giggles out of it in middle school, no? rolleyes.gif Okay.. maybe I was just a bitch.. XD.gif
femmefatale4160
Just kill them.

Seriously, though, I usually just ignore them. I don't think it means that I'm being two faced...my life just doesn't need any more drama. Usually if people say nasty things to you, or spread rumors, etc. they're just trying to get a rise out of you. Don't let them succeed.

But if they really, REALLY piss me off, I beat the shit out of them.
