heh i heard that they gona put up writing SAT test next year... i heard it from this girl...xxkrnqt... um something like that lols newais do u think they shud allow it???? i mean i dont like it. it's soo not fair! now it's more stressing!!!!! ackkk-_- im 10th grade and i dont want their to be another section! aiish!!!! wait is it only SAT 1? or all SATs?!?!?! man.... cus if i fail SAT 1... i prolly have to take it next year again...but still!!! ackk-_-
WildGriffin
Actually, they're taking away 2 sections as well.

Say bye-bye to quanatative (sp?) comparisons and analogies. Say hello to some good ol' writing.
Kathleen
I think it's about time they should add something for writing. A great example of how badly we need this are the grammical errors around createblog. _dry.gif

i dont want writing!!! cry.gif i dont mind having quantative comparisons and analogies.....
Spirited Away
Wait..............

So are they making it easier? stubborn.gif
angel-roh
hmmm we dont know about that...since it's new section. i mean the seniors wouldnt know it either cus they havent take the new section of writing o_o cry.gif
Spirited Away
I actually want it to stay the same, if not harder... HA~HA to those who haven't taken it yet. whistling.gif
WildGriffin
HARDER!

Nuts to that. What'd you get on it fae?
NatiMarie
I think they are going to take out the analogies and put in the writing instead. I would so prefer that because it's easier. I'm good at writing (well pretty good) and it's so much better than knowing what all those words mean. It makes it less strenuous because they have a higher basis on grading you. It's not like something that you will either get wrong or right, it's how you come forward to whatever issue you're writing about.
Spirited Away
Personally, I thought the writing was so much easier than the analogies, those were so......... pointless and hard. But reading and writing was so much easier than math.

stubborn.gif Asking for my score is like asking how much I weight. Hehe, but I did well enough to get scholarships.

Hmmmmmmm....

Writing comes easier to some then others. If I were to take the SAT 2 with writing and no anologies....750-800 english right there.

Anologies kill me. I own the reading comprehension and sentence completion though laugh.gif

Analogies really do lean towards logic though. Good riddance to those suckers.

How true... that and math... cry.gif

Now that I look back, I could've done sooo much better if I took it twice... I only took it once and then I chickened out. pinch.gif
strice
personally, i think both writing and analogies are easy. too bad for you non asians.

Why is it 'too bad' for non-Asians? huh.gif happy.gif

asians get drilled for this crap while you go play soccer.

Last time I checked, I was Asian, and I still am.

You mean most or some Asians get 'drilled' for it. My parents just told me to do my best.
strice
i saw your "almost a mutt" and i assumed you were mixed. i wasn't drilled for it either really, but i'm a minority. my friends all started doing SAT books back in 4th grade.
Just_Dream
Man.. I am bad at writing! LoL when I write any essays, I alwsyas use thesaurus and stuff lol and dictionaries pinch.gif So hmm... I guess I'm going to fail the writing part. But I mean, hopefully it won't be too difficult. Yea analogies are tough wacko.gif But I mean, i did them alot in 7th grade and I sort of understand how to do them. But then again, that was like 3 years ago AND near the end of the schoolyear my teacher gave me like these tough ones where I didn't even know a single word on the paper. >_<"

Anyhow yea maybe it is easier. But your hand will hurt more because of the fact that you'll have to write more rather than the original "bubbling in the circles." WHo knows, hopefully it will be easier for a dunce like me tongue.gif
juliar
Nope.
From what I've seen from some members in createBlog, they are in MAJOR need of some writing skills and verbal skills.
And from alot of other people in the outside world. If you take away that stuff from the SATs, well..no one would care..and people would be writing like...
Should no people eats fishes?
WildGriffin
Writing is going to be easier then most of you are giving it credit for.

It wont be so much about your vocab content + spelling, it'll be more about how you approach and support your statements or whatever.

Keep it structured and use lots of examples. You should do just fine.
iheartsimba

ComradeRed
the SAT Writing is easy. I'm not even in my school's Honors English track and I got an 800. They curve it a lot.
TBoltzbabe
no they shouldn't cancel anything in the SATs because i have a shitty GPA but great test scores
EmeraldKnight
Wow.. this is an old post (second to last tongue.gif )

Ok.. all I'm seeing (at least in the recent posts) is that
a. there's ppl in favor of it because they write well and perform well on the test (Minda don't show off.. _dry.gif )
b. there's ppl that hate it because they dont earn good scores..

I personally just dont like the fact that its scored out of 6 yet its worth 800 points.. so if you miss 1/6, you miss over 100 points...

Anyways.. its absolutely necessary because let's face it.. no matter how strong you are in other areas.. (ie. as science/math/history), you're going to need to be able to communicate with people.. to be able to write

One of the few exceptions would be in athletics.. unless you're interested in playing pro sports, writing is going to be necessary in your future.. and colleges need to be able to know how well you can write; it also depends on your interests and strengths.. writing wont be so important for a math major than it would be for a literature or history major, yet the math major still will need to be able to write
JlIaTMK
yeah it then would measure ur skills in writing also
i know its more work but its worth it
princess2113
NOOOO i hope they keep it
ComradeRed
The Writing will make it EASIER, not HARDER. I'm very experienced test-taker, and I can say for a fact that they will grade the essay leniently. They do on the PSAT and the SAT II Writing.

There is no writing on PSAT

ANd.. well, more lenient, perhaps.. but some people just dont write well, and for them, the test will be harder, you cant just say that it'll be easier for everyone Minda.. perhaps in your experience, but not everyone's
ComradeRed
There IS writing on the PSAT... just not an essay.
EmeraldKnight

Oh of course, I thought everyone was just referring to the essay...
empyrean
well i wasnt happy when i heard that theres gonna be a writing section on the sats starting 2005 because i think theres going to be much more room to make errors. even though its graded as a whole i would rather have the old test

Make errors? What do you mean? I just hate the fact that its scored out of 6 and if you get a bad scorer.....

The main problem with the old test is that everyone prepares for it so much.. all these prep classes and stuff.. you can't realli prepare so much for the new test so it'll be a better gauge of one's abilities
empyrean
well i mean errors as in most likely you would have a higher chance of making a mistake, or as you said, you get a bad scorer and they for some reason dont like or understand the way you write. if this happens then it could seriously bring down your grade

true because its been around for sometime and almost everyone knows exaclty what is going to be on it (well at least the types of questions on the test). i agree it may be a more accurate test about how a person's writing skills are but what about the other sections then? in the math section i think theyre taking out the quantitive comparison but i dont know what theyre putting in. i dont see how theyre going to "improve" the math section after all the sat isnt just all a verbal test

For math, they're putting in higher level math stuff.. instead of the basic easy crap that's in there now
empyrean
oh ok well thats a bit better but in a few years, its just going to be the same again, and everyone will know basically whats on it with the exception of the writing part. a few decades or so ago it was basically impossible to get full score but now many people are because of the sat prep and everything. soon, after the changes are made, the sat prep classes or books or whatever are going to change too. theyre just going to have to keep on changing it
EmeraldKnight

Yeah.. they should keep changing it.. times change, so why shouldnt tests?
empyrean
true they should change it im not completely against the changes in the sats but i feel more comfortable without the writing because as youve said, if you get unlucky and the person who scores your test doesnt like your essay, then youre basically dead
EmeraldKnight

But supposedly they're grading it easier..

*shrug* I dunno.. we'll have to see once it comes out..
empyrean
well thats a relief happy.gif i remember taking it in seventh grade for this program i put down random answers and didnt bother to answer some questions in the verbal part n amazingly i didnt get a 200

Haha.. perhaps you got lucky tongue.gif

just hope i get as lucky when it comes to the thing that actually counts
ComradeRed
Remember, on the essay: You want to write like Ernest Hemmingway. Short, brief, and to the point.
EmeraldKnight
Thanks for the tip Minda! happy.gif

(Unfortunately, conciseness has always defeated me.. pinch.gif )
ComradeRed
Just try not to impress them with being subtle or tactful... they read dozens of essays a day and will only spend two or three minutes on yours. They are going to be too tired to read for meaning. Be blunt.

Now you know why I got an 800 on mine :).
empyrean
yeah thanks for the tips ill be sure to engrave them into my brain laugh.gif

THey should get rid of the SAT 1 period! That test proves absolutely nothing, except for the fact that you can walk in and fill in bubbles correctly.
