BMX is one of my favorites actually. I like Mat Hoffman, he is awesome. Ryan Sheckler is an amazing skater too. And at this year's X Games, did anyone see Travis Pastrana's double backflip in Motocross?! That was friggin sick!

He is my hero for pulling that.

The rumor flying around Staples Center that night was that Travis might attempt the Double Backflip, a trick that he invented for the first time late in 2005 in remote Washington State. He’s the only rider who has the ability - and the balls - to even try the trick, and all night the announcers were teasing the crowd by saying that tonight might be night that he attempts it for the second time.

But, everyone knew that he wouldn’t try the trick if he didn’t have to. It’s simply too dangerous. And Travis, who this year competed in more events than any other X Games athlete, had too much on the line. But after his first run, which featured a superman backflip, Travis was sitting way back in fifth place. That’s when he put the jump builders to work. When the guys got out their shovels and started modifying the landing everyone knew it was on --- Pastrana wasn’t going to let the night pass without giving the double backflip a go.

At that point the energy inside the Staples Center was crazy. First, there was a tense cheer as the crowd found out the double back was going to be at least tried. Then, absolute silence as Travis hit the throttle… you’ve never heard a Stadium full of people be so quiet. Then, a tremendous roar as Travis spun his 200 lb. bike around twice and stuck the landing perfectly… you’ve never heard a Stadium full of people be get so loud!

He scored the highest Freestyle Best Trick score ever --- the judges awarded him over 98 points. It was absolutely one of the most triumphant moments in freestyle motocross.
