I have a particular distaste for poems. generally, i feel poetry is contrived and formulaic. of course there are brilliant ones, but too many crappy ones flood the literary world.

I love poetry. Eh there are some that need a little work - mine included - but everyone learns from their mistakes, later to produce beautiful poetry.

i agree with kathleen everyones poetry gets better, i also need to fix mine, * goes to read up on some shakesphere * haha we have the best of everything on cB dont we?

I like poetry, it just depends what kind you read. If you read poetry about a particulary thing you enjoy, it's really cool. It's like reading a book, let's say you read a book about romance, but you really enjoy adventurous things, you're not gonna say, 'books all suck'. So yeah, it's hard to place poetry as a thing to say, 'poetry sucks' because if you like music, then you like poetry.

Moving on, poetry is alright when some contrived person trying to write a "deep" poem doesn't attempt it.

I write poems when me feels like it. No meter, no beats, and most importently; no rhyming. Poems need to flow, ya know?

i think poetry ROCKS!
when you write your own, you can express your feelings inside through a pen and a piece paper. itz really cool. i don use any other way to express myself. i love to write poetry. i have lots crappy ones. but i love it.
when you read others, itz great to feel wht they are feeling.[good or bad]. when you can relate to the author.. thatz the greatest thing.
and when your poem flows AND rhymes., thatz really cool. although im not a big fan of rhyming.. cuz mad pplz tri too hard.. and their stuff came out... making no sense. so i prefer let the poem flow. and express your tru feelings.

I hate writing poetry, only do it when I'm under the gun. I don't read poetry either for that matter, don't really care for it, but I don't dislike it either. Lots of good poems out there. Though some are a lot worse than others. One that I find funny goes:

To some people(if not all), writing poetry is an outlet for emotions. No matter how bad, how messy, how good or how touching one is, I think it should be respected. After all, reading a poem done by heart is like reading what is inside a person's heart. Shouldn't you feel privileged?
I personally think poetry doesnt "suck". Just as much as other things I dislike don't suck. *shrugs* I write poems, and when I do, it's like putting me or my feelings into words. So I know that a poem is a work of art, and it should really be valued by readers.

i love alot of poetry. but on the other hand i see where you are coming from. there is alot of poetry that is just crap. but the poetry i really hate most is the totally pointless crap. i write poetry based on emotion and i think it comes out best that way. some people write poetry on banannas. well, i don't know for sure, but people write poetry on stupid crap like that. they need to learn how to put emotion behind their poetry.

i agree with you. the past ten years, i hated poetry. why? because all i ever read was crap. but nowadays, every once in a while, i read one and im all like.. hmm that actually wasnt too bad. so i dunno. i like song lyrics better anyway.

Of course there will be bad poems out there, but hey hey hey, it depends on how people look at them. There are some really strange poems that I've read in a literature book for my english class, but my teachers like it beucase there's those "hidden meanings." It just depends on what you read and how you perception of them is...

Poetry, is not only words written and placed down on mere paper. It is words formed by thoughts and emotions, whether it be sadness, anger, hatred, joy, confusion, struggles, or realization, poetry is how a person can express their true selves, and allowing others to know about how their mind works; what things go through their head..

Poetry doesn't have to rhyme, it doesn't have to have a certain amount of syllables, it doesn't need puncuation, or propper grammar; just like a person. People don't have to always abide by the rules, be what others expect, people can live life the way they want, despite if there are consequences, good or bad.

Poetry has many purposes, to share an individual's joy, to tell a story of despair, to silently cry out for help, or help another, it doesn't matter, poetry is flexible and can be in any shape, size, or form. Like a person. To me, poetry is something that tells others about a part of that person's life. Or life itelf, and what life holds.

I could still say I don't know very poetry very well, but I respect it. I love how it's formulated so beautifully, a way to give emotions. I personally cannot write poetry very well, but I don't think it sucks. Everything I'm not especially fond of...there are always a handpicked few that I love. Perhaps I just think too hard when I'm with poems. I don't flow and freely when I'm writing excerpts or stories.
