It's not only a girls sport. I think it's very manly actually.
Anyway, if you play, what position and your opinion.

I enjoy surfing and i exert high amount of energy. I suck at being close to the net because i hit the ball too far. i guess, i'm only good for the last row and surfer.

I absolutely love volleyball, right now in the girls team in school, we're just starting to play games.
Urm, my favourite positions is just playing the back row.

edit;; and it's true that's its not just a girl's sport most guys have a better over hand serve than a girls[sometimes, anyway].

um lots of running...
weights...
stretching...
have you played before?
do you know what position you would be playing?

- i have no problem with stretching since i'm very flexible.
i dont mind about running. this summer, i'm going to run with my friends because ... she wants to lose wieght. my other friend want to lose weights. my other friend want to come along. ;]
- weights ... i'm really weak sause.
- i had been playing vollyball since 5th grade. It's one of my sports that i like ;] ... and it's the ONLY sport i'm good at.
- the position doesnt really matter, everyone get's the same position.

Just something that will not only make you look more skilled, but it will make bumping easier:
Your arms shouldn't move much while bumping until you follow it through, your power should come from your legs
demolished
Jun 21 2006, 04:42 AM
wow ;]
so, vollyball is pretty much base on legs?
i'm not suppose to exert force in my arms? i'm suppose to let the ball hit my arms to bounce off? how do you control the direction of the vollyball when you hit at the same time?
oh man, i dont think i learned right ;[
thanks for letting me know!

to impress ur coach. Don't RUN from the volleyball. Go after the ball if its coming ur way. NEVER LET THE BALL HIT THE FLOOR.

I played hitter when I was on the team.
The only thing that sucked was that our star player was a hitter so I didn't have much of a chance to look good as a player because she was always so much better.

mmm the only sport I play :) welll I play back row serve recieving or left side defender... kinda in the middle (not front or back)
MeowGurl
Jun 23 2006, 10:25 PM
know the approach for hitting (if you're right handed move your feet left, right, left+jump+hit... if you're a lefty do the opposite). make sure you know how to set and bump too. serving is also good, but in our school it doesn't matter if we can serve or not since most of the people on the team CAN serve, don't know about yours so work on serving just to be safe.

Okay, like people have said,
NEVER let the ball drop
Show enthusiasm, if the coach
tells you to do something
you darn well do it and make
a point for them to see that you
made an effort to show them
make sure that your platform
for bumping is good and that
you have really good control
if possible, have a knowledge of
setting in order to be a "well-rounded"
player
be able to attack the ball (hitting, spiking,
whatever you wanna call it) is VERY important
make sure that you have the footwork and the
swing down.
you need to know blocking, redirecting, diving,
rolling, and all that good jazz.
it would be a good idea to do some sort of
prep camp this summer if possible.
oh and if you're outa shape or something
cuz of summer and all, make sure you
get your legs and mainly thighs in shape,
cuz they're bent all the time during play.
oh ya, and always call the ball when you're
going to get it.
