is it possible to make a layout thin [as in going down the middle really thin, where all the modules are somewhat minimized]; they`re very popular, but i don`t know how to go about doing this

and secondly, how do you swap a layout? as in make the [normally] left-side modules go on the left and your default pic, and then your about me and such on the right?
