So, I have to give a speech about the conflict between China & Taiwan, and it is required that i have some kind of attention getter. It obviously has to be appropriate, and i have a pretty stern teacher, so something that wouldn't... piss of a stern teacher, i guess.

do you have any ideas that i can use to get the audience's attention?

bring in chinese food. that'll get their attention.

Start with a narrative of a time when China and Taiwan almost went to war or engaged in military offensives.

Ehh, I did this before. I agree, bring some kind of pastry or something. Or make a light joke at the beginning. Don't seem like super serioius person.

Somehow make it personal to the audience somewhat relating to them. That would get my attention.

And don't sound really dull or monotone.

Candy always works well.
