I used to hate being in a relationship because it always hurt at the end. The dating was fun, of course, but at the end, my heart was broken into pieces. Now I'm in a meaningful relationship, we've had our ups and downs but damn it feels good to be loved.

Well I'm sort of in the weird position because *points to self* mom. Having said that, I LOVE being single. I have major commitment issues and I'm really particular about who I hang out with (I can't bring myself to saying "dating" LOL).
Part of this might be that both my mom and my sister always had this incessant need to be in a relationship. I never understood it. I love my freedom, I need my freedom. I look at it this way.
And back to my first sentence, the "weird position". Well, as a single parent, I feel expected and/or obliged to *have* to be in a relationship. As if it's a societal mandate.
Still single, still loving it. Mandates schmandates. :)
