So I just saw the 1996 version of this, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes. I loved it. I want to find my Romeo...*Sigh* Anywho, back on track: who liked the movie better than the actual play? Vice-versa? I think they did a good job on this movie. They only left a few parts out of it; the major one being the death of Paris. Nonetheless, I loved it. The actors are ones that you can easily recognize. There is so much symbolism in that movie it makes me sick. Also, it was directed by the same guy that directed Moulin Rouge so yeah...it has to be good, no?

omg this is one of my favorite movies! i was at my cousins house last thanksgiving and i watched moulin rouge for the first time. i was like hey...this reminds me of romeo + juliet so i look on the moulin rouge dvd cover and says director of romeo+juliet i was like heyy i was right! hahah but yes they rock!!

thepaly is better becasue you can image everything the way you want it. i think the books are always better.

ohh i watched part of it in english class too, but i like the other one better. the older version. the 1996 one has like guns, lol. and claire danes shoots herself...its not relevant compared to the book.

I actually find the play much more better than the movie because too me, the surroundings didn't match up with the old Elizabethian (or whatever its called) English because it was all modern and the english was all interesting. But aside from that, I liked the movie. I like Romeo & Juliet. I think I'm the only one in my whole school last year who like read every single book about Romeo & Juliet in our library. I know, I'm a weirdo.

That movie was pretty darn good!! I watched it during class. ehe

The older version is good as well. Well, it's supposed to have guns (with the blatant symbolism) because it's the modern version. You don't see many people pulling out swords today, challenging each other with duels, right? Haha. Eh, they always have to change something, you know? I think that has to be the part most hated by everyone. I didn't fathom it either. The only other part I think they left out was when Paris is killed by Romeo.

Once again, it's because it's an updated version of it. They had to keep it true to form, though...I mean, it's not Shakespeare without his language, right? You can't translate the beauty of it to fit modern-day and expect it to be as gorgeous. Hehe that's okay. I love Shakespeare. I breathe it. *Takes in whiff of air* Hmm...imagine...I could be intaking oxygen once breathed by Shakespeare. Oh yeah.

it stank. i hated it. i liked how the brand of the guns were "sword" or "dagger". fun fun fun. they should have set it in, like, new york. and translated it to ebonics. like instead of "do you bite your thumb at me?" it would be, like, "bioch, you got beef?" it would be alot more entertaining that way.

Yeah, but like I said, it wouldn't be Shakespeare, then.

i never saw the 1996 one.. but ive seen the 70's one.. and i enjoyed it, it was pretty true to the play.. but i have to saw id rather see the movie then the play..lol.. plays bore me

i loved this movie..and the soundtrack is awesome!!!! i also love baz lurhmann (sp?) his way of directing is HOT. lOL! so i like that movie version than say the play version. HMMM...if u like baz lurhmann then u should check out "strictly ballroom" its one of his early directing works...that movie is HOT as well.

OMG!!! THAT IS SUCH A GOOD MOVIE!!! I DIDN'T KNOW THAT LIKE ANYONE ELSE KNEW IT EXISTED. lol. it's really good, but i haven't seen it in years. and i love how they make it take place in modern times. way back when is hard to 'relate' to.

They only left out two parts that I can think of...and I'm a Shakespeare freak.

EE. We watched both Romeo and Juliet`s + West Side Story. >_>;;... I really didn't like the second one, just the ending was sweet. 2 girls in my class were like, "NO! DON`T DiE!! SHE`S RiGHT THERE!!!"...HAh...and they were like...jumping up and down in their seats. And the rest of us were like..."Uhm....It's kinda given that they're both gonna die....so it's gonna happen.."...lol...And then the whole dagger=sword thing? That was really weird. And it was funky how the people talked in Elizabethan[sp] English, in like, a modern world. lol...It got a bit annoying... but...*shrug*... It was okay.

I preferred the first one though...

we read it this year so we watched both the movies, but i thought that one was really cheesey and lame. it was good in some parts, but the fighting and floral shirts just made them look tacky and something, but then the richness and stuff was completely contradictory, and it generally bugged me

In what way was the "richness" contradictory?

wait the romeo and juliet the one... ooooh u mean the one that guy from... umm... i think it's chris tucker or i dono...haha... a guy who gets crazy and like hes on drugs haha... hes funny... i was watching it with my english class.. jus a short clip. the part when leornado di caprio was in the scene in the amusement park with these lots of colors...and i guess that chris tucker look alike was singing like crazie... i think...um i forgot cus i watched it last year haha
