Should physical education be required, or should it be banned?

I think it should be required. I really need it, but since i don't have to take t, i"m like "eh, whatever" you know? I'm just more in shape if i have PE
EmeraldKnight
May 18 2004, 12:51 AM
Well it depends.. I like how our school sets it up, that if you play a sport, you dont have to take it, which is pretty nice, cuz sports are more fun and you still exercise, but yeah, if you dont, you should have to take it, make sure you stay healthy and in shape

The way ours is set up is, there is Athletics, there is PE, and there are seperate classes for some sports, like Golf....or Track..
But the deal is, If your in Athletics, you have to play 2 sports.
In PE, you learn all the things to keep you in shape, They expiriment with you with stuff like Tae Bo, and Yoga, Pilates, Bowling, Stuff random to keep you busy.
I DO Believe it is a good Idea. With the most horrid statistics going around to day about obesity in our age groups, I say we should require some type of physical activity. If you dont do well in sports that's what PE is for. The minute I stopped taking Athletics I gained. Our Youth neeeds activity. There simply isnt time for them to run around as they used to in the "old days"...... Technology killed staying outside all day barefooted swimming down at the river, or planting gardens. In other words....
By this... I've F*ed up.

no, of course they shouldn't.
people in america are more overweight then they have ever been. the schools aren't helping by cutting physical education out of the program. PE is the only place some kids find excercise, and when they have it maybe twice a week, they're bound to be unhealthy. i mean, look at me - i have PE once a week and look how i turned out

People are complaining that were too fat and lazy now...it should definitely be required. Alot of times the only physical activity kids get now-n-days is by way of gym class.

I think up until high school kids should be required to take a PE class. Even though most of it is stupid random stuff like badmitton or my high school gym teacher's favorite - ultimate frisbee, it teaches the fundamentals of excersizing and staying in shape.
My college requires all students to take a Fitness and Wellness class in order to graduate. I think that's a little much though. I don't think my university should force me to excersize. I go to the student gym twice a week. I think that should count for something.

PE is pretty cool.
At least at my school anyway.
The way we do it there are A and B gym cycles, which alternate each school day. When it's an A day, all A gym students have 1 period of science and 1 period of gym. And then the B students have 2 periods of science. So it's nice to have that break every other day from struggling through an hour and a half of science.

I think physical education is more important for younger kids than academic education because you don't learn f*ck all at elementary anyway.

Its realli great exercise (well I guess if you slack off and dont try then yeah.. its pointless), but i mean, in competitve sports, its one of the most tiring and demanding
NatiMarie
May 18 2004, 06:46 PM
Haha, about the comment on badminton, I just love that sport. In PE, it's not as intense as it is in the actual sport. I played Girl's Singles for badminton in my school's team, and it's such a hard position. You have to be running around and smashing it. It's very tiring and, as said above, demanding. So yeah, badminton for me is not stupid. It's fun

lol i know! My point exactly, I played Varsity Mixed doubles this year.. and yeah... lots of running there... i'm hoping to switchi into singles next year... aiy... even more intense, but it'll be good exercise for me

yah by the time college comes around it shouldn't be required, unless of course your major is physical fitness.
There's 40-50yr olds in my college, I could just see some of them in PE

If i had to play a sport or something, i wouldnt mind, cuz it'd be kinda fun, but as for the general physical eduction.. some of it is realli pointless.. like line dancing, they teach line dancing at our school! why would we ever need that?

No PE is a must.....i mean look at alot of kid these days they do nothing but sit in front of a TV, Computer, game system, or just sleep.....PE is the only form of exercise most kids get....i have no problem with PE and im not a small person if ya kno what i mean....im the Biggest kid on the Varsity football team....Gym is where i go and warm up for practice or stay in shape during the off season.....and if i have a free block im in the gym running or lifting to stay in shape....the only people that are against gym are those that are anti-social or just plain LAZY!

May 31 2004, 04:30 PM
I personally love physical education and I'm glad that it's required. It's a way to keep fit and to reduce the risk of obesity...at times. Sometimes it doesn't though because some PE teachers don't enforce some of their rules too much. Some just come out with excuses, I've seen it done many times. I remember this girl never ran the mile because she didn't want to run...she didn't run. So sometimes I'm kind of doubtful if even having physical education can actually reduce the rates of obesity...ok, I'm contradicting myself a lot...

It should be required up until you finish high school. But PE grade should be based on participation. For example: (Don't grade people on how fast they can run the mile. You get an A if in the top 10% times.) That would be such bs cuz it's not fair to those who aren't in top physical shape but did their very best.

PE is good. A lot of people wouldn't get exercise without it. And c'mon...so what if you have to change....at least it's a class without tests and homework and assignments...all ya have to do it play. And you get to talk to other people during class

I think that PE is good b/c it gives all the lazy bums that usually sit at home on their butts eating some exercise ... no offense to anyone.. that was pointed directly to me too haha!

it should be required... but...
its simply a excuse for the schools to bring down the obisety rate... or its a disclaimer for if the student gets fat they cant sue the school for not making them excersise enough...
many schools conbine their cafeterias with their gyms.... so it's not really wasteing money.
students bodies must be developed at a young age, and they should get into the habit of playing sports, so later on in life they don't end up couch potatoes...

Even though I don't really like P.E., since my P.E. teachers are nutheads, I don't think we should BAN P.E.... But I believe that some P.E. teachers need to be replaced... because they're idiots and they shout... all the time. I don't know. phys ed should not be required but an OPTION... for those who wnat to take it... should not be banned cause a lot of ppl needs the excercise even if they don't realize it.
