Full Version: asked to senior prom/ball

a girl that really likes me asked me to senior ball.

the catch is that im a sophomore. she is a senior. her request came out of nowhere. shes quite popular and could have asked another senior boy. she is attractive, but my feelings arent enough that id consider going out with her. should i go and risk having those wonderful rumors and the chance that she thinks we could go out, only to deny her later, or decide to not go.

*edit* i should clarify what my exact dilemma is
pros: its senior ball as a sophomore, which is pretty cool. a couple really good friends are seniors so i can hang out with them for a little bit. and its senior ball as a sophomore! age difference i dont mainly care about. just all my friends are sophomores.
cons: first, since its senior ball, i have to hang out with her 90% of the time. i dont really know her friends that well. as i sophomore i barely have any seniors as friends (2 or 3) so im afraid ill get bored as heck and blow 200 dollars. since i dont like her, my entire dance wont just revolve around her. plus, i dont want to lead her on and make her think im interested in her when im really not. that is just kinda messed up.

and after listening to the opinions of seniors, senior ball is MUCH more than a dance.

Talk to her about it. If she's someone you already know you wont be looking for a romantic future with, tell her you'd rather go as just friends. If she's someone you think you might be able to build a relationship with, say yes and then date to see whether or not she's the girl for you. Being asked to a dance doesnt mean she'd ask you out later although it's a great chance she would, or would want you to ask her out. I say maybe go on a date before the prom and evaluate your feelings for her. If you like her, be her date for prom. If you like her as a friend, tell her you'll go with her as a friend to the prom.

Oh, and dont bother worrying about the rumors. It may be hard but try to just not let them get to you.

First off! Age doesn't matter! I'm a senior, and I asked my girlfriend to the Prom (she's a freshman)... Yeah, young but love doesn't have age. Second, why not go? It's an honor going to Prom when you ain't even a senior yet. That person obviously cares about you to spend that once in a life-time with you. So yeah, I mean, it's only a school dance, nothing else...it's not like you MUST date the person to ask them to the prom right?

It's just a dance.

if you want to go to the dance, then go.

if not...then don't.

popularity means nothing. after the brief years of highschool it'll all depend on who makes more money =)

Wait, if you have to pay $200 to go to the dance with someone you don't like that much, I wouldn't do it. $200 is a lot of money, and you should probably only go if you really like her and know you would have a good time. From your post, it only seems like the good thing would be going as a sophomore.
But anyways, you should talk to her and ask her why she's asking you. Tell her that if you do go, she shouldn't expect a relationship to come from it.

^ Agreed.

Age doesn't matter. But if you don't even like the girl, why blow 200 bucks?

age is just a #. but if you dont like her dont waste money.

Your cons seem to outweigh your pros.

So I guess I say don't.

If you have some doubts about going to the prom with her, I say, "don't go". If you truly wanted to and whatnot, there wouldn't have been any cons.

son. you have to go. you are the hero to so many underclassmen who dream of being asked by some popular upperclass girl to go to prom. that NEVER happens. be the man. Be the Hero. and then on monday tell all your friends how you did not make the big score... or did...
