I've heard people say that cookie dough is bad for you, but does anyone know what's so bad about it?
mipadi
The biggest concern is that it has raw eggs. Raw or undercooked eggs can contain bacteria like salmonella, which can cause food poisoning.

Having said that, my friends and I have been known to make a dish called "cookie pie", which is raw cookie dough inside a crust of chocolate chip cookes, with a layer of cookies on top. It's really good, and none of us have ever gotten sick from it.

I am incredibly fond of cookie dough. It's one of my favorite flavors of ice cream and I sneak spoonfuls when I'm making cookies (ssshhh, I told my son no!; but it's a do as I say not as I do situation. ;) ).

I have not once become ill.

yeah cause i ate a a few spoonfuls of cookie dough happy.gif and my sister saw me and said "that's SO bad for you!" i've never gotten sick, but i just want to make sure nothing horrible is going to happen to me lol

^ If you eat a lot of cookie dough, your chances of eating salmonella in the raw eggs increase...so if you must eat it, keep it in moderation.

Or, if you can find a cookie recipe that doesn't call for eggs, it's not as bad to eat.

My Cinderella.
I've never heard of this before. Cookie dough is bad? But I'm guessing the uncooked eggs.

If that's the case, leave the eggs in a hot water. No, i dont mean boil it. If you do, the eggs becomes pure solid and you dont want that.
Gigi
^ Either that, or find some store bought pasterized eggs. Same sort of technique, just more convenient.
imnoxonesmemory
it's because of the raw/uncooked eggs. you can get food poisoning from it. ><;;

I don't eat cookie dough, because I like cookies way better.
I agree with the food poisoning part, you can eat it...as soon as it is not the days before any important events, so you don't get to miss it.
voguelove
i always thought it was because of the raw eggs. and im pretty ocd about germs so i stay away from it.

What if it's the cookie dough you buy in the store? Anywho, I'll still eat it cause it's oh so delicious...
misoshiru
Cookie dough's delicious. But like everyone said, there's salmonella and other types of bacteria in raw eggs, AND the big thing to worry about now in raw eggs, is bird flu.
Crich323
I know you can buy some cookie dough by the quart that only uses pasterized eggs so your safe to have as much as you want. biggrin.gif
KissMe2408
The combination of raw eggs, sugar, white flour, and chocolate.
Not exactly the healthiest combination.

Totally agreed. Raw eggs is bleh.. but cookie dough tastes awesome. Especially in ice cream, I hate sweets as of now.
