We have topics for recommending both music and books, but not one for movies! So, what are some of your favorite movies or ones you'd reccommend to some people with a certain taste?

Here's one to start off:

Darren Aronofsky flicks - Requiem for a Dream and Pi, mainly. Good stuff, and a really cool directing style. Requiem for a Dream focuses on a boy (Jared Leto) with a heroin addiction living with his mother (Ellen Burstyn) who dreams of being on TV. He, his friend (Marlon Wayans), and his girlfriend (Jennifer Connelly) try to make their way scrounging up money for the drug. Kind of a 'heads up' to what goes on with a drug addiction. This is probably the most popular of his films. If you enjoy it, watch Pi as well.

A Clockwork Orange: One of the best movies I've ever seen. It's based off of the book by Anthony Burgess, and it's about a kid who lives in the future where there is tons of violence from the younger population. Be warned, it's a Stanley Kubrick film, so there are lots of naked women. laugh.gif

troy -for action lovers
a lot like love -if you like romance
hostage -if you like thrillers

King Kong-It's quite intense, you don't get bored watching it, and it's EXTREMELY sad. I thoroughly enjoyed it. _smile.gif

Uhm, here's one:
The Green Mile: This is truly one of my favorite movies. It's based off of a Stephen King novel. The plot: "The story about the lives of guards on death row leading up to the execution of a wrongly accused man who has the power of faith healing."

My Cinderella.
Movies:
5 children and it - This is a good movie for those who have nothing else to do for the rest of the day.
Ice Age 2 - This one made me cry. cry.gif

Books:
Cirque Du Freak Series - A must read.
A child called it - Such a sad but good story.

I love The Green Mile! Tom Hanks is an awesome actor.

Hm.. I don't watch too many movies but The Lion King is always awesome to watch even though it's a cartoon.

I have to agree, that was a very good movie.

I recommend Closer. It was quite entertaining and it really drew me in. I love Clive Owen's charater.
"Set in contemporary London, a story of passion, drama, love, and abandonment involving four strangers--their chance meetings, instant attractions and casual betrayals."

Oceans 11 & 12. I cant get enough of those movies. They're so clever!

i loved closer. one of the best chick flicks i've seen.

i recently watched everything is illuminated. i'll leave it up to yahoo to describe for you guys.
"Tale of a young man's quest to find the woman who saved his grandfather in a small Ukrainian town that was wiped off the map by the Nazi invasion. What starts out as a journey to piece together one familyâ™s story under the most absurd circumstances turns into a surprisingly meaningful journey with a powerful series of revelations--the importance of remembrance, the perilous nature of secrets, the legacy of the Holocaust, the meaning of friendship and, most importantly, love. "

for foreign war movie, taegukgi. that movie made me shed a tear all three times watching it. made by the same director who directed "shiri" which was a decent movie too.

other reccomendations: amelie, finding neverland, crash, spirited away

One of the movies that I never get tired watching is Whale Rider. There are so many wonderful things to say about this movie, and while it may have a teeny bit of a "girl power" undertone, there is so much more substance to the story than just that. It's powerful and gripping. I couldn't take my eyes off of it, and it's one of my favorite movies in my DVD collection.

Yeah.

What's the first worst film ever made?

And I couldn't stand Closer.
Zatanna
I would have loved Closer, but I can't deal with Julia Roberts.

(I always thought Catwoman was the worst film ever made, but I'm biased)

Recommendations (I'll just list a few for now):
Garden State (yeah sure, it's incredibly over played, but I like it regardless)
Walk the Line (brought me to tears, and that's a rarity)
Spirited Away (by far, my "Happy" animated film)
LOTR (all 3)
Harry Potter (all 4, but with emphasis on films 3 and 4)
Blade Runner
The Fifth Element (we quote from this movie daily, no joke)

There's a ton more... but look! There's my boss! *alt tabs quickly* whistling.gif

I didn't like Garden State either. It was one of those movies that I just didn't get.

And if you're talking about tears, I cried - "cried" isn't even the word, I was bawling - all throughout Hotel Rwanda.

^ Oh, I loved Garden State...

I enjoyed Hotel Rwanda a lot as well. Man, I've forgotten what movies I've seen and loved so much...

Oh, I just remembered a fantastic movie I saw on TV a while ago.
It was called Manic, and it was about a bunch of kids living in a mental hospital.
It was amazing really.
So emotional; I remember crying through the whole movie.
Relentless
*woops, my bad I put books*
Books
- A child called it -- VERY sad story plus very good.
- The Lost Boy -- (2nd book ^)

Those are like the best books I have ever read.

---------------------------

- A walk to remember (My friend made me watch it, it's really sad)
- Harry Potter (I'm not a fan but I just like to see it)
- George something (Forgot his last name, it's a sad story. He's a "special" kind of kid but he's friendly, nice, and extremely helpful to his best friend.) Awesome movie, yet sad.
KissMe2408
Drop Dead Fred - Hilarious, about a grown woman who is revisted by her imaginary friend, the catch is that she's the only one that can see him. Good moments. lol love it.

Tap - Great movie, especially if you love dance. But great if you don't love dance as well, Sammy Davis Jr. in it tappin', it's a great movie.

A Chorus Line - A must see for a musical and dance lover. Great songs, amazing dancers...good story line.

Alfie - Jude Law.... shifty.gif hehe, lol. A great performance by him, and just a really interesting movie, it's unique. Just watch it, it's a good night movie.

I'll have to update this later, it's getting late...

Gus Van Sant's
Elephant.

I hate that movie with a burning and undieing passion.
Now, for recommendations. Avoid Elephant and Kids unless you're sadomasochistic.
And, check out my sig and avatar set. Federico Fellini's 8 1/2
