whats your opinion on them? do you think we should have them?
juliar
i guess. otherwise people would come to school in a bra and a friggin thong. because there would be no rules against it.
EddieV
This belongs in school.
Smoogrish
Debate, possibly?

Anyways. I personally think we should have them, but since I've never had to go through a school with a dress code, I can't be 100% sure we should. I admit, I just don't like people who come to school wearing all sorts of skimpy outfits and such. I think it's disgusting and that only people who really want attention wear that sort of clothing. If we had a dress code, that would eliminate all of that, but I'm not sure I'd want to give up going and choosing your outfit for school, because I'm the sort of person who actually likes to coordinate stuff. It's in my nature.

Dress codes are dress codes. I don't see why people can't just follow them. I know clothes are supposed to "express individuality" but it's just ridiculous to see guys' pants halfway to the ground and girls who wear just plain TOO revealing clothes. I'm not all "oh, i think we should all be nuns and cover ourselves up" but i'm just saying that there's a limit that people should go to. I mean, it's the people who dress inappropriately the reason why we even have dress codes!

So basically, I don't care. I just don't really like the whole shorts have to be longer than your fingertips thing. Some people have really long arms.

i thought this post was already made a few weeks back..?
chococat15
yeah, i've seen a thread like this before
IceCream4U
Well, I think they should be there, but mine is pretty ridiculous.
We are not aloud to wear belts. they are considered gang related. so is wearing a San Diego or LA tshirt of anykind. any sports jerseys, unless they are san marcos middle school jerseys. f**king retarted. the admins. (at our school) are fucktards.
stephinika
Moved to school.

hmm; i personally don't like dress codes. It makes me like feel like there taking away our like freedom of dress? But then again, there should also be rules against what one can and can not wear, such as items of clothing that show of flesh in certain area's that aren't neccassary to be shown.
Smoogrish
Oh, I just read over the topic again- I was thinking of say, a uniform for school. I think a dress code is the best way to go, for example, no baring of flesh in revealing areas, skirts below such and such, shirts below such and such. It still allows you to go choose your clothing, but at the same time eliminates all that skimpy outerwear.

since i go to a catholic hs, they are really strict about dress code, like you have to wear a polo shirt (the colors given are: royal blue, blue, white, red and gray), pants- for girls and boys (with a school logo on it - colors: black and gray), skirts - it has to be a modest length, but a lot of girls in my school roll it really short, so it's a big issue that my school has (the colors given: dark blue, gray or black). And you have to wear black flats for girls (but no one really wears it because they wear black sneakers) and for the guys you have to wear those formal leather shoes. My opinion is that people look better wearing uniforms and it keeps people from wearing unappropiate clothes that would affect the learning enivornment.
insanityislaughing
I think there should be some rules on how people dress. Not too strict, but not too loose either. We don't have a vert strict dress code at our school, but it's still really nasty to see all these girls wearing shirts that show way too much cleavage.
sprezzatura
Tt's good, to a certain extent.

Those clothes with too much exposion of skin and shirts with bad messages should be banned...

Also, there are students who have over 20 facial piercings and all emo/punk looking...those should be limited in how many piercings could be worn at school.

Another thing, slippers and sleepwear shouldn't be worn at school.

Anything except those mentioned are okay for school. People can still stay "fashionable" that way.
parallel
I think not because everyone should be able to express themselves both in fashion and attitude.
That's my opinion though...
Looow
at my highschool, its like wear whatever. as long you dont come to school in a baithing suit.
Paulina
Our high school dress code is pretty strict. But we don't have uniforms.......yet.
We can't wear words unless they're Christ-related, a college, or if they're our school t-shirts(obviously).
We can't wear clothes that have brand names on them like Hollister or Abercrombie & Fitch.
Skirts have to be 2 in. below the knee and shorts have to be 2 in. above.
We can only wear shorts certain months, but only because we don't have air conditioning.

I don't think dress codes are that bad. They keep some order so everyone doesn't wear slutty clothes. But sometimes they're too strict.
AnnahhbeL
^Yeah, my school's like that too.
Dress codes keep thinks in order. Wothout it, there would be too many revealing parts and cleavlage..and stuff people don't want to see.
short_dark_hair
I really like dress codes, they keep an order. And it makes it a lot easeir to choose clothes, and relieves most, if not all, of the pressure there is to look nice, and to not repeat outfits, etc.

yeah. People would walk around school the way they don on their myspaces. Not good. Hootchie little hoes. _dry.gif

I think its very neccesary, but I think they usually go too far. It get impossible because fashion never goes with school rules. I mean, you can't really buy long shorts, so if you wear the ones they sell, you get in trouble. SO u just have to wear pants. bUt its texas. Its hot 90 percent of the year. And then there are the stupid rules like not frayed clothing. I'm like why does it matter if the bottom of my jeans have frays in them. Maybe I'm too poor to buy a new pair of jeans every 2 weeks. I'm sure not gonna wear floods just so my pants dont fray. BUt overall, some rules need to be put in place.
xbby_charmz
heck nah hahaz i have uniform at my school and i hate it i want to go back to wearing my old clothes i mean wut ever happened to free speech? *retorical question*
sw33t_rouge
i think dress codes prevent people from dressing like sluts..so i think dress codes are good (:
ecargnmyst
hmm..well i like how my school has no dress code so everyone wears wtvr they want but still no one dresses in something scandalous.. however ..there was this girl who came in in a bra with a fishnet shirt covering it..but..no one cared..

a dress code isnt neccessary..b/c i think ppl have enough senses to not wear a bra and a thong to school..and dress appropriately enough.. we kinda did have a dress code in j.h.s. and my friend got in trouble for wearing a midriff revealing tank top..which didnt even show that much stomach =\
Crich323
They are good to have but I think my school is a little bit strict on it.
Men MUST be cleanly shaved and we cannot have ripped or frayed jeans... _dry.gif
iminlovewithTomDelonge
yeah.. i don't wanna walk into a school full of girls half-naked. but i do agree that it shouldn't be too strict...

You think that's bad?!

I go to a private religious school and on the 2nd to last day of school during exams my skirt was literally half an inch short & they said they would fail me on my exams if my mom doesn't bring me a new skirt by the time the exam starts! And girls must wear skirts starting from below the knee, up until last year girls had to wear nylons, no backless shoes, all shirts must be no lower than if you hold your hand up to your collarbone, etc.

Guys have to tuck in their shirts, collared shirts, dress pants, belts, no long hair, etc.
xchrystizzle
i think dress codes are good. i have uniforms and i love them, i dont have to go through the hassle of figuring out what to wear. it's simply a white polo and navy blue pants, skirts, or bermuda shorts. but IMO dress codes are necessary. they help you get used to the fact that there will be a dress code at your job, if you want a good one. and its distracting to guys' educations when they go to school with half naked girls ya know. mellow.gif

but some uniforms ARE a bit over the top whistling.gif
tcunningham1589
I like my schools dresscode. Before our new principal, we were not allowed to wear shorts.. stupid yes. But we were not allowed to wear shorts 1949-2005
cashmere deer
Of course we need dress codes. As long as they aren't too strict. My high school is pretty chill as long as you're covering up somewhat. Now my middle school was frekkin insane. You couldn't wear sandals, have holes of any size in your pants, wear chain necklaces, OR THE COLOR PINK! They got way out of hand. Oh man am I glad I got out of that place.
shampoo192
My school (Harker) is really really strict on dress codes. I guess cuz its a private school. Middle school was okay cuz it was uniform but in hs its way tougher. x(

Lol! My friend is really tall so her shorts look really short on her. It doesn't help that she has long arms either. We have a rule that says "Students can't wear more than article of red or blue clothing." I got it trouble for it because I was wearing blue sweats with my volleyball shirt (which is blue). I think that's the most ridiculous rule ever.
