are there any programs that i can open my mp3 files with and make the file smaller, without taking out part of the music so that i can fit more on my mp3/phone?
kryogenix
Lower the bitrate of the mp3.

how do i go about doing that. i tried doing it in itunes like michael had told me, but it kept importing at 192 kbps and not 128.

Couldn't you change the file type of the song too..?

Then they wouldn't be MP3's.

re-encode from source.

if you re-encode from MP3, you'll magnify the audio artifacts and it will sound pretty bad.

iTunes doesn't work. iTunes wasn't ment for that functionallity. Go look for a program online, a music editor, or something like that. Also look for a compressor. WinRAR will compress for you, after it makes the rar archive, just simply take the file out of the archive.

^ I did the exact same thing a while ago and now I fit more music in my MP3 player than the music that was in the ad.

What do you mean? iTunes is perfectly capable of re-encoding a song using a different bitrate.
