I started using it for my acne. It started to help at first, but now it's not working as well.

That's because your body has built a tolerance to it.

I've never heard of a doctor or even FDA prescribing hormone adjusters (birth control) to combat acne... basically, it's making your brain believe that your hormones belong to the body of a 70+ year old (or one of which cannot produce a child)... which isn't good.
Rachel
^Doctors prescribe birth control for treating acne all the time. You are not a female, ergo, are not very experienced in the realm of birth control.

Who told you that?
Basicly a doctor will prescribe a low dose BC to try and "Combat acne" or will prescribe it to reduce the effects of certain period related issues [Heavy flow, regulate periods,PMDD,PMS].However more than likely will they wont be strong enough to use as a actual Birth control.

About 2 years ago I got on birth control. It made me sick sick sick and every morning for about a month I would throw up. It was like I was pregnant (but wasn't)...

Odd, eh? I know.

So needless to say, I quit and haven't went back.

Although now I don't need to be on in, seeing that I'm not sexually active. :)
sweetest-emotion
i was really irregular and my parents just thought after i turn 18 that i would go on the pill, sexually active or not. plus when i did get active i didn't want to say "hey mom, dad, i'm sexually active now, can i go on the pill?". yeah...awkward much?
popoberry
isn`t birth control for preventing birth from sex ? yeah .

I use it for various reasons.
Acne.
Periods.

and to maintain my hormones because my doctor said I had mild depression, so instead of me taking anti-depressants, she suggested I took the pill, because it calms down your hormones.
Or something like that. shrug.gif

Which I'm okay with because I think I'm a taaaad bit too young and not REALLY depressed for anti-depressants...

JTFLxtatic
i dont use birth control, however.

my sister wanted to use it for her acne.
but when she started, her period never stopped and she got cramps most of the time (and im not talking about normal cramps, she has insanely abnormally painful ones)

so she stopped. and no more birth control. :)
surenarr
I chose other.
i have to use it cause every few months about a week before my period i get cysts on my ovaries, and they bleed into my stomach and stuff.
the bc has stopped it so far, ive only been on it for about 6 months though so its still kind of a test.
but yeah they were horrible pinch.gif
the ultrasound i had said one was the size of an orange.
worst pain. ever.

Actually, it makes your body think you are pregnant,
thats why it makes some people get morning sickness.

i never heard about it being used for depression.. they just put me on antidepressants. would have been great to fix crappy periods too.. if it really works. stupid doctor. shrug.gif
paperplane
I got on it for acne. Once it stopped helping, I got on acutane, and to take acutane you have to be on the pill (basically). I'm done with that now too, but I have no interest in going off the pill because I wasn't regular before I got on and I like knowing when my periods are, my cramps are much less strong, and I know that I like knowing that I have a certain measure of protection already if something were to happen to me sexually.

Birth control is a nasty nasty NASTY thing.

Yes it will help with acne, and yes it will help you with your period.
In fact, it will completely stop your period, which is the point, right?

But BC is not good for you at all.

We have periods because we are meant to have periods.
What comes out is meant to come out.

BC actually has a lot of estrogen which, in fact, is a hormone we already have too much of. Estrogen gives boys breasts, and it makes girls start puberty too early. Estrogen is in meats and milks because it's what farmers give animals to get them beefy. But most women have such bad period problems BECAUSE of estrogen, and giving yourself more doesn't help. And being on BC for more than 5 years will cause miscarriages and it will put your fertility rate down by 50%.

it wont lower you fertility rate at all it will really make it go up. its a good way to get twins. take birth control for a while then just stop and the chances for twins or even triplets will go up....or my health teach lied to me stubborn.gif
tailoredtrouble
well if it makes you more depressed no thank you.. lol. i guess i wasnt really depressed, it was like a chemical imbalance that caused symptoms of depression.. except you arent sad or whatever.. lol.. i dunno. but i have zoloft! so thats good..

It helps me actually.

I have major PMDD. (Not PMS.)
I have Acne.
I have debilitating period cramps to the point I vomit and pass out.
I have sex.

Women need Estrogen.
If your mother is not a doctor and she tells you birth control is bad, don't believe her.
Don't always believe what you read on "christian" websites.
Birth control has nothing to do with a fertilized egg (nor does the morning after pill).
S-Majere
I wouldn't go on the pill, regardless of whether I used it because I were sexually active or if I were to use it for health reasons. There's still too much uncertainly about pumping random hormones into your body - and even though it reduces the risk of ovarian cancer, it can increase the risk of breast and skin cancer. It's unnatural and I simply wouldn't do it.
jackizzle
bad cramps.

aren't some STDs transmitted through touch-contact.?

They all are. But by saying she doesn't have to worry about getting them from her boyfriend... she means her boyfriend doesn't have STD's to transmit! -_-'

Birth control did not make my acne go away. But I think my chest got a tiny bit bigger. D: Barely noticeable though. Of course I'm not using the pill though. >=]

I started a few months ago for a few reasons. I wanted to regulate my period and yeah I'm sexually active so I figured why not. I did my research and yeah there's some uncertain stuff but it's not going to kill me.
And since I've started, I've had none of the bad side effects, so its all good. thumbsup.gif
crazi_in_love_08
i use it for a lot of different thing.. one. so i dont have a baby with my boyfriend.. 2. my cramps are really bad.. and 3 .. we live in a bad part of town so my mother put me on it like 4 years ago incase any men attatcked me. which makes sense... hasnt happened but it helps with no babies and cramps!
Glamourouz
I got on birth control simply because I didn't want to be a statistic like a lot of other people I know & have all of my hard work gone down the drain & it happened to keep me from worrying about my periods, it made my flow lighter & regulated my cycles because I used to go 2-4 months without one every now & then...I want to have a career & be married before I deal with having kids & I have to get over my selfish spoiled ways

i dont use it nor do i plan too. my moms told me that sometimes birth control keeps you from having a baby your entire life....which i dont want. so i live with my periods as is and am not gonna get sexually active til im married. my mom got pregnant with all three of us while she was on birth control so i doubt it would work for me either

Wow, I've changed alot in the last couple years. I'm taking the pill now cuz I'm sexually active.

From what I've learned the pull out method is not effective.

Not effective...sometimes.

thats my method of contraception it has been for the past 3 years, and yet here i am baby lessss. whistling.gif
I think it has to do alot with the person.
fathomlessdame
I've heard its not effective too. The precum still has a little sperm in it so there's still a possibility.
Reconditee
I've been thinking about getting birth control pills, I just have to tell my mom about it first so she can pay for it. The shorter, lighter periods sounds like heaven. Does it really help with acne and enhancing other parts of your body? What are the pro's and con's of birth control?
fathomlessdame
Pros-
99% chance it prevents pregnancy
makes periods really predictable. it also makes them lighter supposedly but mine arent much lighter
little or no pms :)

cons-
there are some ewwy side effects. if you find the right kind you should be fine. but some can really mess with you. since i started taking desogen, i've been more emotional sometimes.

for me its 25 dollars a month. so i suppose that isnt bad.
Teesa
i personally do not use it, but a few of my friends use it because they are sexually active but there are also a few people i know that use it just to stop acne.

If i could i would just want birth control just to shorten my periods
also i didnt know it could clear up acne

but i mean if i told my mom that she would have a cow and probably think im sexually active
(which im not)

for me my period is a bit of a hassle i guess. Escpecially during school season because i absolutly hate using my school bathrooms and i usually try to avoid them when i have to.

how old are you? because you can go see your gyno and ask for the birth control and tell them to make it confidential. it will never show up on the insurance bill nor are they allowed to tell your parents. you're just going to have to pay for the prescription and so on.

a lot of my friends used birth control to regulate their periods in the beginning.
but, if you're on birth control and you always take it everyday at the same time, you should always always use a condom. or at least try to most of the time. whistling.gif

Im sixteen.
Im not sexually active. I would probably use it to regulate my periods since mine are usually always unpredictable and i guess i have a bit of an acne problem and if it could clear that up id be a happy camper.

My sister has awesome skin ; A ;
and were twins. Makes me so jealous.

Also if it doesnt come on the insurance bill how much would i have to pay then? and when?

I'm starting birth control in a week or so. I got it because I have horriable cramps, I'm sexually active, and It'll clear up my skin, and have lighter periods.

I'm just scared I'm going to end up gaining 20 pounds and I can't afford to gain all that weight.
Rogue_Ewok
i love the pill. i've been on it for three years now. I never gained weight... My period became lighter and more predictable, my acne went away, and my boobs went from a c cup to a double d.

The only bad thing about the pill for me is that it slightly decreased my sexual desire... but I recently switched pills to take care of that.

Thats been a trip though, adjusting to the new pill... my last period was virtually non existent and my breasts were sore every single day last month. The tenderness has gone away, and I hope my period will be back to normal this month.

So girls, when you start the pill you may have some side effects for the first month or two, but stick with the pill and they will eventually go away.
ElmoKnowsU
I'm not sexually active but I'm on bc. & The only reason why I'm not active is because my boyfriend left for the Marines. I got on the ring though cuz I know we're gonna get down on the days he comes home! Lol

*edit* I forgot to mention, i had a baby girl 3 months ago, so I don't wanna get pregnant again so soon.

Yes its safe. You don't have to use a condom or pull out, just remember that bc doesn't protect against HIV and STD's.
me1issaaaa
I had really bad PMS. I was such a grump, and I'd cry for like a week before I started. It was sooo heavy, I hated changing so often. And I hated condoms, especially after one tore.

SOOOO...

I've been on it for 6 months. Shorter period, never have to wear anything more than a liner and maybe a tampon if it's the first or second day. I am still more prone to get upset the day before I start, though. But YAY for baby blockers [:

But you have to be on the birth control for a month before it is completely effective.
DeviantShadows
I use it mainly because I have no desire to get knocked up at 20, and it will help regulate my periods. I've been irregular for almost 5 years and it was starting to drive me crazy.

I'm getting a couple side effects. I just started taking it about a week and a half ago at the beginning of my cycle; I got very nauseous during the first week. After my period ended, I started bleeding a little bit again about two days later; my doctor said it might happen as my body is getting used to it. Can't wait until that goes away..

Mine is $27 a month for generic, around $50 for name brand.
