I usually wear a size 2-6 in jeans depending on the brand of jeans, but I want to order some online that are sizes like 25, 26, 27, 28, etc...but I have noooo idea how to even determine. I tried measuring my waist (but really why does that matter? I dont wear my jeans on my waist!), and my hips but it still doesnt tell you what size to convert to. Is there a special way of doing this? These pants im about to order are actually cotton/elastane (not jean). They're a type of skinny pant. I have a size 27 pair of jeans already so im either gonna order a 27 or 28, but I'm not sure if i should even be comparing jean material to cotton/elastane! They're $200 so I want to make sure I order the right size the first time! Anyone know how to go about determining this??

Hm. Usually, sizing is the same for different materials. I say if you already have a 27 in jeans, go ahead and buy a 27 in the cotton/elastane pants.

the 27/28 is for inseam, right? just measure your legs in the inside.
not sure though.

I think those numbers refer to the waist size. Waist sizes range from 23-34.5.

Here's a size (and conversion) chart from American Eagle:
