Not sure if this has been made before, I searched but I really didn't feel like going through all 41 pages. Sorry.
Anyway, ever since they made it into the mainstream radio stations, it just seems like Fall Out Boy, mainly Pete Wentz, have been just trying to get on TRL/MTV and all this publicity stuff. Now, when I listen to their music, it's just not the same.
Plus, I hate Sugar We're Going Down now.
Well, only time will tell.
P.S. If this post doesnt make sense, I blame it on it being past midnight.

Well .. you know a band's good if they can still keep up a good, new, fresh sound after being butchered by MTV/TRL.

Well. No. They could suck, sell out, and still suck- but with more publilcity, which sucks all the more. Which just so happens to be the case.

True. Still, in that case, they wouldn't have ALWAYS been sell outs.

Yeah they went on TRL but hey you do what you have to do to get publicity. It's not really a big deal I mean... settle down. I've liked them for like 2 years. I seriously couldn't care less if they go on TRL or not.
I like their sound, lyrics, look, everything.
My opinion.

It has nothing to do with them going on TRL. They were hilariously awful on SNL (holy hell so many acronyms). And of course, Pete Wantz is everywhere suddenly...sometimes with his d**k out, too. So then of course there's all that bullshit which of course equals publicity.

Selling out is a very relative term. I was never fond of crap fall out boy made, even before they "sold out". Their sound was never anything that new or different, so I doubt you could call them a sellout. Also, selling out is NOT just becoming mainstream. Selling out is becoming mainstream, and changing your sound completely, so it is no longer unique, to fit with the MTV style of music, or something along those lines. Two band that have become fairly mainstream that have not sold out are Coheed & Cambria and Franz Ferdinand. They both have always had a quite unique, and good, If I may add, sound. Even after A Favor House Atlantic and Take Me Out became instant successes in the mainstream music society, their music is still very good.

I still don't understand why publicity is a bad thing. Not all bands can thrive and have success how they want by staying completely underground.

Not all bands prefer to be completely underground and unknown to the general public. Some bands want fame and fortune.
But I could really care less as long as they keep pumping out fabulous music.

The problem with that is to abtain such levels of fame and fortune you need to sign a contract. And, in most cases, that contract binds the artist, in many cases, not to pump out "fabulous music."

It's not a matter of staying underground; that's not what I meant by "publicity."
Their methods of attaining fame are tacky and obnoxious, not fame in general.
And as for the rest, Nate covered it.

Fall Out Boy is signed to Fueled By Ramen which I think does a good job of NOT binding their artists to be a certain way. All the bands in that record label have different styles of music. They have a hip hop/indie band for god's sake.
Is that what you meant by contract?
And as for their "ways of gaining fame" if you mean the pictures incident, Pete's sidekick got HACKED, you can't really prevent that. Or hey, maybe he put them out on the internet by himeself. He's a dirty boy.
I can see your point though because yeah I think TRL is tacky and just, stupid as well. They have to make money. This is their JOB. They HAVE to make money off of it. If that means going on TRL, so be it. Their loyal fans will stick with them.

well... in order to sellout, you kind of have to change your aim in order to become famous... if their aim was to become famous, then they havent really soldout, because they didnt change the nature of their mission.
all this is moot (*hits nicki with a filp flop*), however, because they give me aheadache, sellout or no

I give. Besides the fact that their music is irritating as anything, it doesn't count if they can't f**king play their guitars themselves. They're more interested in looking "cool" than playing well, and that's just awful.

If the radio stations and MTV and FUSE and every other music thing wouldn't play their stuff every effing 5 minutes, they probably wouldn't be as bad. however, from under the cork tree.. the whole thing.. just sucks. idk if thats before or after mtv or what. i just know its a different sound, and i don't like it.
and pete wentz is way cocky. when i saw him live he thought he was all that and a cup of tea. so him doing publicity stunts wouldnt surprise me. he's good looking though, i'll give him that.
