Where should i start learning how to make good layouts for myspace and web pages and stuff like that. Where should i "start" learning html and css. Even though i know a little bit of them. Websites would be greatly appreciated. What programs should i tell my father to buy so i can make good designs?

There's also a couple of tutorials here on cB, also. Um, you can make good graphics even in paint. For beginers I suggest Paint shop pro, since it's easy and not too expensive. If you want to spend more money, than Photoshop.

http://www.w3schools.com/

Is very good.

Thank you. Ill probally get Photoshop.

also www.tizag.com is a great way to learn html/css.
tytykid33
So these are the websites that taught you how to code?
talcumpowder
If you wanna crash course, lissaexplains.com or tizag.com.
If you wanna learn a lot quickly in one place, htmlgoodies.com.
If you're aiming for cross-browser compatibility, w3schools.com&validator.w3.org.
For both sides of designing&neat stuff, pootato.org.

Some already mentioned, some not. I still use these sites for the things I've listed them for. There's a few more, but... Those aren't for this kind of stuff. Not really.

Do you guys know a good way to remorize html codes.
freeflow
^ you mean memorize? well after alot of practice and constantly using them they just stay in your head.

Hmm..why does everybody always say that Photoshop is sooooooo complex? I mean, I have it and Paint Shop, and they are hardly different, IMO. Photoshop is very easy to use, except for when you use ImageReady. Hmph.

If the person is a noob to the programs, they will feel that it is a complexity. I know that when I started it took a while to get the hang of things.

Maybe I'm just smart...muahahahaha

i will dominate one day with my smartness!

^What she said.

I suggest going to PixelFx.Org or LissaExplains.Com for some tutorials on coding and graphic-making. Also, I suggest using Photoshop as well, since I have a program that's almost exactly like it, and I find it very easy to use. _smile.gif
Sushi-Rolls
biggrin.gif There are plenty of things out there!
For html/css I suggest searching google.
For programs
If you don't wan't to pay ms paint
is nice.
I know many graphic designers that use it! :]
Or I personally use adope photoshop 7
It is easy to learn and if you have limewire
you can download it for free virsus free
Paint shop. I heard it is good as well
I'm pretty sure tis cheaper than ps 7
Or my friend uses a microsoft photoshop
which is like ps 7!
And is free as well!
If you need help with the html IM me at unicornmixxy!

Its not worth buying Photoshop if you are a beginner, it is quite complex and tricky and you won't get your £800s worth until you are a few years into graphics making. try gimp, which is free and just as good. find it here: http://www.gimp.org/. i use paint shop pro 7 in conjunction with photoshop and i find it the best program out there in terms of making simple, tidy, pretty, blended graphics. That's a bit cheaper than photoshop!
You could also do with textpad, fantastic for html editing. You can save straight to .html or .htm and you can see what your page will look like in a browser. I'm not sure how much that costs but it is well worth it.

In terms of learning, www.w3schools.com really is the best. It has references, quizzes and tutorials. It will teach you very correct html over a period of time. If you just want to make pretty pages in all sorts of colours with some effects and you want to learn good html quick, www.lissaexplains.com is the best.

Hope that's helpful. I know some of what I said has been mentioned already, but I just wanted to make it clearer.

Good luck!

oop forgot to add this and the edit button is going weird.

Looks like you have already made a sensible start coming to CB - a great place for advice. Well done for coming here first, you have basically started learning yourself.

Sorry for the extra post.

While tutorials are helpful, I have found that looking at layouts helps. Decide what things you like best about different layouts here on cB. Then, look at the code and figure out how they made it that way. Save different tricks in a word document to refer back to, so that you don't need to memorize the codes. Eventually though, you will become completely independent and coding will be very easy for you. biggrin.gif If you ever are having trouble using a certain function, go to w3.org and search for it. I have found that to be SOOO valuable.

I suggest Gimp, it rocks. And remember, MS Paint is NOT bad. I use it; I think it's wonderful. Good enough for clean, simple images.

I was gonna post a site with good tutorials..but they were all already posted hehe.gif

I agree with extravaganza, just look at code. It's the main way I learned how to code.
