The government doesn't force walmart to not carry stickered CDs, that's walmart's choice. As for the rest....too many catholics in high positions?

i think so. i think that athiest should have those positions because then they arent biased. [like bush and all those others.]

There is no such thing as a completely unbiased person. Atheists are biased that there is no God.

I'm not a very religious person, but the majority of America is. There is no way the American people - who put a great value on their faith - would elect people to high offices that didn't believe in God.

State and Religion stay in seperate places... it doesnt matter what religion people are to hold political position... they arent allowed to force religion on people...
triipinfserious
i don`t think so ... politics has nothin` to do with religion

Agreed.

Politics and Religion are seperate. It says it in the constitution itself.
stryker76
I think that it is separated to a degree....yes it does stay it in the constitution....but alot is said in there that is still not followed...so i think that there is alot of decisions made with a religious value in mind...i mean most government officals are older people that believe in older methods of things...but for the most part its pretty separate

It says that, but is it really practiced?

It says 'In God We Trust' on the back of our money, not 'In the Constitution We Trust' or something like that, and practically every politician in America ends a speech with 'God Bless America'.

Religion becomes a factor in whether laws about same sex marriages are passed. Religion is a factor in whether abortion is legalized or not.

I think religion does have an effect on politics today.
dukesoccer07
No, same sex marriages deals with morals... its immoral to have a marriage with the same sex... and abortion is just like murder... its all apart of morals...
WildGriffin
Uh...religion plays a huge part in government. What states the wrongs and rights of life? Religion. What does a huge portion of the populace follow? Religion. Not letting one's religious tendencies affect there political career would be very ignorant on the part of the politician. Having a government full of the miniority of the religions (atheists + agnostics) would never happen.

So you deny that there are people out there saying that same sex marriage is wrong because it says so in the Bible?
dukesoccer07
No... but you dont see political leaders saying that... sure society will say that...

Bush isn't catholic. and he's not a religious leader. it's not fair that an atheist who might not be as qualified as a religious person gets a position.

of course religion out to stay out, but theres no stopping it. i personally think all religions are sacks of crap, so whatever.

I completely agree.

The thing is, as someone mentioned before - the majority of America is relgious. Because we're a democracy, majority rules; therefore, there are going to be many religious leaders in the political offices.

I agree with Kathleen! Kathleen, whats ur xanguh?

So let me get this straight... not thinking about morals....

If there was no religion to tell us right from wrong... killing someone would be ok... having sex with the same sex would be alright... and so on and so forth...

Morals play a big part in the government... and it also plays a big part in religion...
Kathleen
Hmm...this is true, but many morals are based on religions. Although, now that I think about it, people used to kill left and right during the medieval period, and they still had religion. Hmm...still, I believe in what I said above.

Well, I'm pretty ignorant on this topic. I have no clue what position in the government the pope and other religious leaders have so it would be foolish to answer this question.

Actually you do not need religion to distinguish between right and wrong, that is a foolish statement. Our religion should not affect our morals as humans....i do not have a religion and i know that killing is wrong, i don't need a book to tell me that. Morals ARE NOT based on religion, it is actually the contrary...we base our religion on our morals.
not_your_average
I'm not too sure. But that's right, religion plays a huge role in many Americans' lives, so having religious leaders as politicians is inevitable. ermm.gif
