Do you think it's right for scienctists to be looking into things so much? All of the discoveries about Earth?

My Opionion:
I have never liked sceince much....I don't think we were meant to find all of this out. And it's scary knowing that they found out when the sun will burn out, or things like they are syaing the world will end in 2012....I just don't think this stuff wasn't meant to be known.

What do you guys think?
Kathleen
I think we have the right to know. We as humans have the right to all knowledge available. The government shouldn't stop it - no one should deprive us of that right. We need knowledge to be satisfied with ourselves, and for us to progress.

I totally agree....it is a natrual urge for humans to want to kno about everything around them...it has been for thousands of years....People as them selves sometimes "Y do people Hack??" Most hackers...not all mind you....are out there lookin for the information that people in high positions dont want you to kno....i for one think that people should be made aware of the actions of everything a government does....as well as science....without science and the discovery of new things and new knoledge we will never be able to better our selves as a Species....and people thing that we are becoming to high tech now...just wait till we have nanotech...and quantum computers...with those comps....A.I. will be easier to create.....technology is still young...if it where a child it would long be a toddler.....because we are only at the beginning of what is possible......

Yha, you guys have good points.

But I was just reading a few days ago that the world is supposed to end in like 2012....wihch kind of scared me....you see, I mean that kind of stuff is what I DONT think is write. Do we really wanna know when the worlds gonna end? We wouldn't have anything in our power to change that

That was the Mayans. Their little cosmo calendar ends at 2012.
But who knows? Maybe they're right. I mean, they predicted the comings of comets and eclipses and such..

i think we should go and find a way to find the end of the universe or at least live on the moon, or build some rocket that is faster instead of some useless inventions in earth. cure for sars, cancer, yes. but like unneccsary things are useless.
Kathleen
Hehe silly - the universe is infinite. What unnecessary things do you mean?

Isn't it better to know this stuff ahead of time, though, in order to prepare for it?

I really think science is right. I mean, without science there is no life. If we didn't discover the science of fire, we would freeze. If we didn't discover the science to magnets, or propulsion of even arrows, or anything we wouldn't be here.
Science is what we depend on to live.
In 2012 the world will end? Preposterous [sp?]. What exactly will happen in 2012?
I will be 18, 19 though...legal, finally. And then I go KABLOOP?

i believe knowing too much is the reason why many people have fear of things... if it weren't for us knowing that snakes bite, or some are poisonous.. many people wouldn't have that phobia... in the times when humans recently evolved from apes, they did not know much, each day was a fite for survival... it was quite a boring life at times... knowlegde of things makes life more intersting, yet for what price?

Yeah, okay. So if you didn't know a rattle snake bite won't kill you and you get bit. Now what? I think it's better if we knew than if we didn't. Atleast we can prevent stuff from happening.

alright, people that don't like science prolly feel that ignorance is bliss. if science can make life easier and take away useless mysterious, im all for it.

I think it's better to know stuff, and I think it's great that they're researching so we can be better informed about things

I dont see why ppl wouldnt like science.. science is the reason you can post here, the reason for your computer, your car, your cell phone, all of these were technological advances founded by a very curious humankind.. i mean, sometimes our technology does grow too fast and exceed our humanity (exhibit a. atomic bomb), but I say for the most part, science is one of the most important part of our lives
Spirited Away
Didn't someone famous also predicted that the world supposed to end in 1999 or something like that?
EmeraldKnight
Thats pseudoscience, not science, you can't accurately predict the future scientifically, you can analyze the past and make hypotheses upon the future but you can't accurately predict it (btw.. who said that, and what was their justification?)

exactly, that's what i meant, someone said we'd be dead by 1999, and lo and behold, we're still in existence.

but it is scary to think that mankind will die out in 2012.

I realize that that's what the Mayans predicted, and I freaked out when I learned that too, but what made them say that? how can they make such a prediction?

Without science, we wouldn't be where we are today - whether that is a good thing or a bad thing, you decide.

Well species evolve and die out as time moves on - that's the law of nature. Whether we can blame technology for our inevitable downfall, I do not know.

No, science will not be our downfall.. what we do with the technology might be (ie. nuclear war or something)
