Just for the sake of arguement...
i think that teachers should be able to hit children.
Why?
Corporal punishment should be allowed. Comparing to the US's crime rate, Singapore is nearly to zero.

i think the majority of teachers nowadays would be too scared to hit kids even if it was legal. plenty of us can completely demolish a teacher alone, and even the weak can be strong when plentiful.
personally, i wouldn't mind. it would be nice having a reason to smack some (few) certain teachers.

Nope. They`d get a bunch of smackdowns from the students haha. Americans have attitude. Especially the teens.

you know, they don't only get hit in school because they're "hyper." in local schools here in taiwan, kids get hit by their teachers because they don't know the answer to questions, if they don't finish their hwk, if they don't do well on tests. it's obviously not fair for the poor kids. and juliar, they have home punishments as well, but still, they get punished in school.

Not really. We may never know for sure, but it's possible for violence to beget violence. Kid got hit in school and hits another kid at lunch time thinking it's an "okay" punishment... who knows.

i dont think students should be hit by teachers at school for doing some problem wrong, or misbehaving.
my parents do that to me all the time =x I should know by experience, usually it doesn't give an advantage to either the teachers or the students. Maybe it's just because I'm kinda rebellious, but it really lowers my self esteem and self confidence. and when my parents hit me, i don't wanna do things right at all just to get them back. then i started hitting them back, and now they don't really hit me anymore. except sometimes. okay, they still kind of do...
on the other hand, my other friend's parent hits them all the time, and hes a perfect student whos really innocent and all.
dunno. i still go by "no" though...

If students get hit, and they get hit by the teacher, the teacher does'nt get fired, unless they have tenyer(sp?).
This tenyer(sp?) thing protects the teachers from getting fired, but if they do hit a child, they just get on "temporarily" release meaning, they don't teach, but they still get paid for not teaching.
So if a teacher hits a child, he could get away with it.
But this is beside the point of this thread.

since i've been here in America for all my life, i have been taught that spanking/beating kids at school is a big no-no. however, i have friends/family who live overseas and it's a normal thing and thats why the students over there are so obedient and polite.
personally, i don't think that its wrong. i mean, it's not a good thing to beat kids but a LOT of students here in America tend to become very rude and never wanna listen or anything. i think a greater discipline would probably be better over here, at least. we all take freedom for granted here.
i1ve heard so mahy stories about how teachers would litterally brused up kids becase they were late or because of no homeworks.
i think that is totally wrong; the dont have the right to do these things. They arent the mothers or fathers of these kids. They arent the ones that should be deciding if the kids should be punished to brutaly. THey are the teachers; they're the ones that TEACH the kids about life importand lessons and show them how to have ajob in life and such. The only people that should even be doing these things to the kids would be the parents.

In my opinion, children that are physicaly attacked by teachers is pretty stupid, even though teachers are trying to discipline them. They're just going to end up with nothing.

why would a teacher beating up a student ever be right?

however, that student has some nerve to make the teacher that pissed off.

Well it does discipline (sp?) them more than yelling would do. I actually think it's good to have it. p_p; I mean it would whip kids into shape and make them think about what they're getting themself into.

I used to be hit with a ruler in India. =x
The job of physical punishment is for parents, not teachers. It's not their job to be parenting in school. Parents shouldn't abuse their kids too much but, heh nowadays, some kids really need a spanking.

they arent the parents. And even if they are the parents; kids should get beaten up. They could be sentence in jail for such thing here in america

just because were more advanced, doesnt mean that someday it will be banned in other countries. point being, that used to happen here, but now doesnt. kids could be hit with rulers and other things a teacher felt they deserved.

^hahaa..I just read your reply a few posts up.
Anyways. Teachers are meant to teach and have patience. Physical discipline should be left to the parents and teachers shouldn't be touching kids anyways. Some teachers won't touch kids in America because the kid could like..twist the story around and whatnot.

To tell the truth I can believe that kids are beaten in school. It really depends on the religion/culture of the country. In my school in my other country, kids were beaten up because it said in the bible that if a child disobeys you should smack him with a rod or something. To tell the truth, I kind of think the only way kids can learn their place is if they get beaten up (not everyday though). But people take advantage of that and overdo it. Well a beating is only deserved once in awhile if that crime is severe in different levels.

Oct 15 2005, 12:52 AM
Well, they shouldn't be BEATEN, but be punished for something really bad that they have done.
Yeah, I can believe that kids are beaten in school.
My mom told me what they did the in Philippines.
But anyways, if they hit you because of the stress build-up and stuff like that, now that's wrong.

Oct 16 2005, 09:14 AM
Er, right. How can u defend yourself from an adult grown man when u are a child? Even if the kid does defend him/herself they won't stand a chance. Anyway, I dont think it's okay to use corporal punishment. And if u say its okay to a certain extent then how do you control that? I wouldn't let anyone touch my kids. That is *my* decision as their parent. No one deserves to be insulted or hit. If they were not behaving then I would punish them in many other ways. Hitting them won't curve their behaviour it will only install hate towards authority. Maybe time out, or exclusion from a favourite activity for a week or so. U know, things that really affect his/her way of life and maybe can use that extra time to think about how they behaved.
