Full Version: A question for those who are intelligent
Okay I got this essay to write by May and the question is "Are the freedoms named in the First Amendment fundamental and if so why?" I need other people views because I don't think mine is right..But what do you guys think?

Well, if it is for a scholarship, it should be based on your views, regardless of whether they are right or not, because that's the point: to write an essay arguing your side and views.
And besides, this sounds like an open ended question that asks for your opinion. You should write on what you think, it doesn't matter if your view is right or wrong because there is no right answer.

As others have noted, the point is probably to explore your own thoughts and ideas. Your view is probably not wrong, as long as you can justify your thinking. What are your thoughts on the subject, and how did you arrive at them? Maybe if you discuss your views, others can challenge your ideas, and thus help strengthen your argument.
Like the others said, post your intial thoughts and rationale. I'd be happy to help in any way once you establish the fact you've taken the time to formulate an initial opinion w/ some justification.

I know it's a scholarship but my teacher gave it for an assignment ( whats wrong with getting ideas anyways?)

^ That means your reasoning, your understanding, and your reflection. Why would they offer $5000 for someone else's ideas?
I'm entering the essay contest, too, and since we have two months to write it, I would recommend skimming through some books for inspiration, if you're really stuck. Books give you examples and ideas, but they're left for you to interpret.
