so i've never actually tried to play any sports during my entire childhood until i recently decided to attend this volleyball clinic [i'm 15] and i have just about no experience whatsoever. i've just fooled around with a volleyball every now and then. anyways, they tried to teach the ones who had no experience whatsoever how to bump, set, and spike but i couldn't do much of them that well on the first day. they told me what to do but i just can't put them all together in my mind to actually DO it. i think i was the worse one there.

do you think that it's possible for someone that's not athletic to actually become good at least one sport with plenty of practice?

edit
ohh and any tips would be nice, too.

thanks guys! happy.gif

Sure. It's absolutely possible for someone to become good at a sport that is completely foreign to them. It's going to take a lot of time, and a lot of effort.

practice...no one is born good....you have to learn...to succeed
Shahin
^ People are born with natural ability.

Sure people are born with that natural gift of being able to play a sport, or multiple sports, and being successful at it. But practice can get you to that height as well! Just keep trying and practicing every day, and eventually, you'll be just as great =]
Hell-Rell
In you case practice won't make you perfect but you'll blend in
mocassinsx29
lol you got no chance!

jk practice and you'll do fine. if you love the sport and you're having fun, practice won't be a problem.

^^^ Lmao....But anyways, yeah, some people are BORN with skills, some LEARN the skills. I guess you just have to LEARN the skills.
yo pusha
theres a difference between skills you can learn and skills you cannot learn

of course you can become better conditioned but if you dont have natural ability such as hand eye coordination, a quick first step, or quick lateral movement then it will be hard to aquire that
The_AZN_Godfather
With practice you acquire skills. Once you do something sucessfully over and over, once you go up the next step, you'll be able to go back and say how easy it is to do those things you once thought seemed impossible. happy.gif

If you want to be deep serious about it...

Practice doesn't make perfect. Perfect practice makes perfect.

So don't screw around. That is, if you really want it bad.

Otherwise, have fun. happy.gif
You are usually more likely to do something you like doing anyway...

I think you are being too hard on yourself for your first day!
Any sport is hard the first day, you really have to practice.
And even if you never played a sport in your life, I still think you can make it!
I didn't play soccer my entire life until my 8th grade year.
And after a lot of practice I made Varsity in 9th.
So please just keep practicing and don't get down on yourself.
I've never been good at volleyball, so i can't really give you tips.
But just don't be afraid, just keep practicing, and I promise you'll get better!

It will take time, but eventually you will get better at it.
Good luck with it!
