I'm sure most of you saw the movie that came out last year with Jim Carrey.
But who has ever read any of the books?

It's a wonderful series that just captures your attention.
The illustrations are unique (By Brett Helquist),
and all though it is a children's series, I find myself reading through them a lot.

Unfortunately, there will on be 13 in the series.
(Here's the only other thread I found on this subject:
http://www.createblog.com/forums/index.php...topic=49708&hl= )

But I just finished reading the 12th one, and I thought it was excellent.

Who else here loves these books?
And no, not the movie. Im not talking about the movie.
I'm talking about actually Reading...yes reading, the books.

Here is an excerpt from one of the books:
QUOTE
"Ha!" Count Olaf shrieked, pointing at the Baudelaire orphans with a
bony finger, and the children were thankful for small mercies. A small
mercy is simply a tiny thing that has gone right in a world gone wrong,
like a sprig of delicious parsley next to a spoiled tuna sandwich, or a
lovely dandelion in a garden that is being devoured by vicious goats.
A small mercy, like a small flyswatter, is unlikely to be of any real help,
but nonetheless the three siblings, even in their horror and disgust at
seeing Olaf again, were thankful for the small mercy that the villian had
apparently lost interest in his new laugh.
-Book 12, Chapter 9, pg. 205

Everyone else share your opinions on this series.
You can also name your favorites if you like.

My favorites are: The Miserable Mill (4th), The Ersatz Elevator (6th), The Penultimate Peril (12th).

Teesa
Haha, I love how you said "unfortunately, only 13..." _smile.gif

Well, unfortunately for me, I've only read the first one and I quite enjoyed it. I haven't had time to go out and get the other ones, but I hear they're lovely.

i've watched the movie, but i haven't read any of them. my sister has the books though, so i may borrow them some time.

This is the ONLY series of books I LOVE. I don't read that much, but when I do, this is what I read. I've read all 12 too. The illustrations are GREAT and UNIQUE! Yeah, the book may be intended for the younger crowd, but I still love these books. I haven't seen the movie. I don't want to. 'Cuz usually the movie kills it. But anyways, these are books I recomend. thumbsup.gif thumbsup.gif thumbsup.gif

I read the first six or so, back when I was a junior/senior in high school. They're cool but they have nothing on Animorphs. Animorphs = throb.gif
racoons > you
*waves the animorph flag and goes to stand nexts to carrie*

im like teesa. i only read the first one
tweeak
Animorphs pwned (James made a great library)

I read most of the first book, but they kept defining words and it pissed me off, so I gave it up. I don't like patronizing books, especially when they're defining words I already know.
KissMe2408
^lol. I see.
Well remember it was targeted to an audience that was much younger, so some of the kids had no idea what the words meant.

And yes, I read the animorph books too much when i was younger.
My mom made me stop cuz I read them all the time. lol
EddieV
I disliked the movie. I don't think I want to read the books...

But plenty of books are written for children, and they don't define things. We don't want to raise a slothful generation, do we? Let them embrace the dictionary
Gypsy Eyes
I love that series! I like the carnivorous (sp?) carnival, The Penultimate Peril and the austere academy.

lol yah i guess people should embrace the dictionary more. However, I think it added to the humor as well. And the fact that the book did define things and the kids learned something from it, is great. I don't think that's anywhere near slothful, since most kids would just skip the word and keep reading if it wasn't defined. And he doesn't define every big word. Just once in a while to add the humor. But hey, i agree. I think they should embrace the dictionary.

mmm, I was mostly kidding, but I really didn't find it funny, just irksome. However I have a pretty big vocabulary, largely thanks to all the books I read as a kid, and admittedly I rearely used the dicionary, but if you can learn to recognize the meaning of a word in context, that's good too. Even skipping over it helps.

Oh, I don't care about kids. I just couldn't tolerate it.

I read the 1st one and stop reading when i got 2 the 2nd book when i was in the middle. It got boring and i didnt have any interest in it anymore.
I dont like the movie. It was short, unlike the books.

Aaah. Ive been reading these since I was in like 4th grade. I havent gotten a chance to read the most recent ones yet. ):

The movie was good, but they switched around a lot of things and changed a lot.
sprezzatura
I like this series of books. Although the most recent book is hard to read because of the "reflecting text."

I haven't had a chance to see the movie. I wish I have the DVD.
KrunkMuzik
^^^ That's the only one I haven't gotten a chance to read. Best damn series ever. In my opinion.
TheReasonWhy
fortunately, i love them too!

unfortunately, i still haven't read the 12th one but i would loooove to!
StanleyThePanda
I havent read the books. but the movie was pretty good.
It made me want to read the books lol
smrkangl
My favorites are the Penultimate Peril, Grim Grotto and the Ersatz Elevator. I hated the movie because Count Olaf was portrayed too comical and he ruined the whole movie for me. ;x
talcumpowder
I rule. My copy of the Ersatz Elevator is signed. Beat that. Kidding, kidding.... But six has gotta be my fave.
Movie sucked. But that's not the point.
sonata
I love this series!

It's so witty and I love the sarcastic sense of humor. ^_^

I can't really say my favorite because I don't really remember them all and I read them in a far-spread period of time... :( The illustrations are awesome too.
KrunkMuzik
My fav. one would have to be Book the Sixth: The Austere Academy

I think it's really f*ucked up that the series is coming to an end....I honestly did enjoyed these books.
