Dawson Leery won't be able to go home again. Moesha Mitchell won't be able to go home again. And Captain Janeway? She might as well stay lost in the stars.
The WB, which made its name with angsty teen dramas such as Dawson's Creek, and UPN, which blasted off a decade ago with Star Trek: Voyager and then became a reliable home for sitcoms with black casts such as Moesha, will close up shop in September, it was announced Tuesday.
In the biggest shake-up in the broadcast network business in more than 50 years, the two networks will fuse their identities, and presumably many of their current hit shows, to form one new network, the CW--the "C" for CBS Corporation, which owns UPN (as well as CBS); the "W" for Warner Bros. Entertainment, which owns the WB.
"It will clearly be greater than the sum of its parts," Leslie Moonves, president and CEO of CBS Corporation said in a statement.
The CW is due to launch across 95 percent of the TV nation in the fall. In top markets such as New York, Los Angeles and Chicago, it'll air on stations that are currently WB outlets.
The new network's programming slate was not announced. But nearly a dozen shows rated mentions in the corporate press release, a good sign that they're considered keepers: the WB's Smallville, Gilmore Girls, Supernatural, Reba and Beauty and the Geek; UPN's Everybody Hates Chris, America's Next Top Model, Veronica Mars, Girlfriends and Smackdown.
The CW will be more WB- than UPN-like in scope, airing prime-time shows six nights a week, from Sunday to Friday, and kids shows on Saturday morning.
But the CW will be more UPN- than WB-like in the executive suite, with UPN president Dawn Ostoff serving as the new network's entertainment president.
Developing story. More to come.
hmm, oh well. most of my fav shows will be on CBS i guess..ah, its gonna be so confusing.

I'm inclined to get angry, but the only show I actually watch on the WB is Glimore Girls and that's on the keeper list.

Yeah, I just read this on Yahoo! news. Hmm, that's interesting..I can't say I'm really disappointed because I didn't really watch shows on those channels..except for Fresh Prince, but I watch that on Nickelodeon now.

This reminds me of that Mad TV skit with Chris Rock.
UPN=under paid negroes. WB = Whereda brothers.

it didnt say that in the article. they haven't made a decision on what they want yet..the shows that are listed are just the ones that are probably for a known fact still going to be shown.

I saw this on MTV news.
kinda weird, i'm going to miss WB.
As long as the same shows stay, then it's good.
But still...I used to watch the WB since I was a kid.
It sucks that they are merging them into one big company

The friends reruns are on WGN, not the WB. It just happens that in some places, they share the same channel.
