NEW YORK - Kanye West, with a crown of thorns atop his head, poses as Jesus Christ on the cover of the upcoming issue of Rolling Stone. The outspoken rapper defends his brash attitude inside the magazine's pages, on newsstands Friday. He is also pictured posing as Muhammad Ali.
"In America, they want you to accomplish these great feats, to pull off these David Copperfield-type stunts," he says. "You want me to be great, but you don't ever want me to say I'm great?"
West also says his hit song "Gold Digger" was the best song last year and that it should have been nominated for the Grammy's best rap song category: "That's a gimme Grammy."
Nevertheless, the 27-year-old is nominated for eight awards, including album of the year for his sophomore album, "Late Registration." The
Grammys will be presented Feb. 8.
West has always been forthright in saying what he feels, most famously when he said "
George Bush doesn't care about black people" during a telethon for Hurricane Katrina victims.
"If I was more complacent and I let things slide, my life would be easier, but you all wouldn't be as entertained," he says. "My misery is your pleasure."
The strangest tangent of the Rolling Stone story, however, is when West says he's addicted to pornography. He remembers first seeing his father's Playboy magazine when he was 5 years old.
"Right then," West says, laughing, "it was like, `Houston, we have a problem.'"
In the interview, he doesn't seem as ugly as a person as he is.

^ Hahaha.
Yea, Kanye's pretty cool most of the time. The only time I was really "ehh" about him was during that Katrina interview...cause like, as much as I hate Dubya, I highly doubt that the reason that there was such a delay in the aid after the hurricane was purely because there were African-Americans in the area. Meh.
But his songs are neat. ^^ He has every right to think his music's great, and I do detect a bit of jokiness (that's not a word, don't use it please - I'm not a leader, I'm a follower) in his tone.

The whole Hurricane Katrina thing was HILARIOUS. The look on Mike Myer's face...priceless.
I don't know, I don't have a problem with him, despite his obvious arrogance.

Well. I must say this a side of KanYe I haven't seen. I've always thought he's a cocky self-loving a-hole. But until today, I never really saw him come out and say that he thought he was great. I don't know, its weird. It's like the fact that he acctually came out and said(with what appears to be a bit of a joke)that he likes himself makes it different for me. I guess I just appreciate him acknowledging what I've seen him to be. I mean, if you're going to be mean, rude, or in his case, on a pedestal at least come out and say it. Either way though, I still don't think he's a genius. His music is pretty good but I'm still not rushing out to buy his CDs.
As for the Jesus picture. Some people are gonna have a field day with this. I will give him credit for taking a bold step. Although, coming from KanYe, it doesn't surprise me that he'd do something like this. He seems to enjoy having people a little riled up.

I like Kanye's songs. He's a good music artist I"ll give ya that but c'mon don't ya think he's being a little TOO conceited? there's a way to be confident but making it sound like the world will be nothing without him is just a little overboard.

KanYe West is nowhere near as outspoken as Immortal Technique. But how many people know who Immortal Technique is?
Whether or not he's overrated is subjective. From a hiphop standpoint, Late Registration was lackluster with its repetitive lyrics, basic rhymescheme and beats that really didn't appeal to the hardcore hiphop fans. Musically, it was absolutely brilliant.
KanYe has said some off the wall shit, but he's right a lot of the time.

That's the only thing people can look at is that he posed a Jesus. But in the Rollingstone he also posed as Muhammed Ali. He's jus tryin to explain that he's a great person. Yeah it's kinda cocky...But when your great your great and Kanye can back that up with the hit's, instrumentals, flow, and style.
"In America, they want you to accomplish these great feats, to pull off these David Copperfield-type stunts," he says. "You want me to be great, but you don't ever want me to say I'm great?"

He's very cocky to do that. What Jesus did was sacrifice himself for the good of all people. What Kanye did was struggle and I guess you can sacrifice a few things for HIS own success. And he complains a lot about society and yet he doesn't take advantage of his power as a celebrity (considering how people look up to him therefore has the ability influence people) to actually fix those wrongs. (except for donating a portion of his money to a few charities...but I'm not quite sure if he did that, i only heard from someone else that he did)

Not everyone is going to view religion from your persepective.
f**k KanYe. f**k Jesus.
KanYe still did his thing and Jesus remains a theological figure that will remain a force in the lives of many for (possibly) centuries to come.

I don't like Kanye because hes ignorant and he said he started the the clean rap movement. Number one, his rap isnt what I would call clean, and DUH! Yeah but didn't Kanye believe in Jesus as a savior and some representation of "good" (of some kind?). So in Kanye's situation, posing as Jesus means that he thinks he's a representation of what's good.

*shrugs* Thats what he claims. He's a grown ass man making decision based on his own personal beliefs. So far, he's proved a lot of points with every so-called "publicity stunts" and every tantrum. He probably could go about doing things differently, but would he still be KanYe?
Let's put it this way, I bought KanYe's Late Registration and I merely downloaded Immortal Technique's stuff.
