The highly successful car customizing show "Pimp My Ride" is finally moving on. After a long run as one of the most successful television shows for MTV, West Coast Customs is moving its show to another channel and changing the format.
According to The Press-Enterprise, WCC will be developing a new show on the Discovery Channel with the producers of "American Chopper" and "American Hot Rod." And instead of creating over-the-top designs like "Pimp MY Ride," the show will be based around the work they do on a daily basis and will include customization of private jets, helicopters, tour buses and other high-end vehicles.
Although MTV will be losing one of their most popular shows, the split was amicably, according to both parties, due to owner Ryan Friedlinghause's concern with his company's image.
"We've had a great experience with Ryan," said MTV spokesman David French. "Everyone in that garage is very talented and we wish them all the best."
Friedlinghause has also made another big decision, which is moving the shop for the fourth time since opening its doors in 1993. The shop's new location will be Corona, California. WCC moved from Laguna Niguel (their original location) to Compton in 1998, then to Inglewood in 2000.
According to Ryan, the reason for moving is not business-related -- due to the shop's reputation, they could move anywhere and still be in business -- but simply to be closer to his family, who he rarely sees, due to his back and forth commute from Corona to Los Angeles.
"I've done my time in L.A.," Friedlinghause stated. "Everybody knows who I am. It's time to move."
WCC's new location will be a 21,000-square-foot shop is in a corporate-style building in an industrial part of Corona, which according to Ryan has a huge custom car market.
"My customers aren't really LA-based customers anymore," said Friedlinghaus. "The interest in custom cars and the money to spend on customization is evident in the Inland Empire. It's like the new Orange County."
"Pimp My Ride" averaged 1.1 million viewers per episode, Nielsen Media Research said.

What a great way to start off the year.
Indeed. I'd like to see them do things like customize Lamborghinis, not hook up a Mitsubishi Mirage.

Pimp My Ride was a cool show but I'm glad they're moving on. It kind of gets old after a while. Plus, I really do think their designs were a bit too outrageous for my taste. I mean, huge red or blue flames on the side of your car with a skull on the hood? No thanks.

I totally agree. They really do ruin the car with flames. All the time.

Agreed. Every show I would think to myself "No way in hell would I drive that car!!" They were way too flashy and often too hyped up for a white girl like myself. I would be scared driving 1/2 of those cars because I wouldn't want to get jumped.

^^^ 100% agree
yeah. They were just trying to get more viewers. Kind of more gaudy than pratical.

WCC's owner is pretty damn cool for doing that.
He ended a deal for a lucrative show on MTV in order to keep up his shop's image, AND he moved his shop so he could be closer to his family.
Respect +1.

i always wondered what happened to the people who got to be on the show. do their cars get stolen as soon as they bring it home or what? the cars stand out way too much to not attract the wrong crowd.
change is good. the show seemed to be doing the same things over and over again (or maybe i'm seeing too many re-runs). now that they're going on a new channel, they can show what they show what they're really capable of doing and find a good, loyal, and solid fan base.
damn those b@st@rds must be hella rich.

^ Naw, no one in their right mind would steal those cars. Like you said, they stand out too much and thus would be easy to find.

Pimp my Ride was great. I loved what they did with the cars, it was awesome. who wouldn't want 5 XBOX 360s in their car? HELLO! Who cares about the paint! They paint it to what you put on the application. They make it fit into your lifestyle.

Good. I like the concept. Although I often found myself getting annoyed. Some of the customs are so silly and pointless. Like the bowling alley one. I don't care how much you like to bowl. Unless you're a professional bowler you really don't need to sacrifice the trunk space for a mini bowling alley. Its pointless, useless, and frankly a waste. I mean some of the customs were really interesting adn I had no idea they could do such things. But the rediculous things made it stupid to watch in my opinion. Also the acting they had those West Coast guys donig. I don't know, it just seemed like it was all waayyy to scripted and if it was thats why it didnt' work. Those guys aren't actors so any scripting will suck! Anyways, I plan to watch it now and hopefully it'll be better.

Why the hell would I want that in my car?
I had a 7 inch screen that got stolen within a month of purchase. I could care less about 5 XBox 360s in my whip. Hell, put that shit in my house.
Come correct. That was weak.

Don't worry everyone, I'll pimp all your rides :)
I'll just go to KMart buy their 15.99 14 in. Spinners, then add a stuff a TV in the backseat and your ready to go.

I loved that show, but some cars were wack. Oh well. All I would want in my whip is a big plasma screen and a tub. I know the ladies would love it. But I still gotta wait...5 more years.
