Here's the deal:

I installed a Nvidia GeForce 6600 (PCI-e) card in my computer. Supposedly my 'Maximum Power Output' on my power supply is only 305W, where the card requires a minimum of 350W. I figured this would be okay since I havn't filled all my PCI slots, I only have one hard drive, etc. It's been working just fine. However, when I play games, my fan seems to speed up considerably. So much that you can here it loud throughout the whole room. I am curious, would buying a new power supply unit, probably 400W, stop the fan from having to speed up so much? I am worried the fan may break. I do not have an available spot to put another 80mm fan, I only have one available spot which is used.

Wait, your PSU fan speeds up, or all your fans in general?

Is this a stock PSU that came with your computer/case? What brand is your PSU?

I seriously reccomend getting a high quality PSU. Too many things can go wrong with bargain PSUs. I'd change the one that was bundled with my case, but it's a special form factor so it would be really hard to find a replacement.

My fan for the whole case speeds up, my PSU fan does not. And yes it is a stock PSU that came with my Gateway 500GR.

As for the calculation site, it did not have a PCI-e video card option, so I chose a high quality AGP card.

It suggests a minumum or 304W, lol.

Quite possibly, it's just that the 6600 is producing a lot of heat. Considering getting rounded cables or more fans, which might require you to get a better PSU, doh!

Only thing is I can't fit more than one fan unless somehow I put it on the side...
