I like all kinds of style of dress; and I kinda pick and choose pieces from most of the styles you listed. And of course, how I dress is contingent upon where I'm going or what the situation calls for. But more than anything, I'd call my "style" relaxed and comfortable ... whether I'm wearing jeans and a T or decked out in a dress. I have to be comfy.

A|X is overrated. I went in there for the first time the other day and was not impressed at all.
And I wouldn't call myself, urban, and I wouldn't call myself prep, I'm somewhere inbetween. Let's just say I'm casual.

That means that I don't care about any other prep stores except for AE, which basically shows that AE is the only "Prep Store" I dislike.

Abercrombie, American Eagle, and Hollister is not preppy, that's suburban. Preppy is Ralph Lauren, Lilly, Brooks Brothers, Lacoste, and LL. Bean. Preps are confident and unafraid to express their own styles and be daring in their fashions.
Preppies don't:
* Wear tight, skin exposing clothing (ie fitted Abercrombie sexual tshirts with tight flared jeans)
* Limit themselves to mall shopping and chain stores. They gravitate towards long-established classic stores and boutiques unique to quaint New England towns.
* Wear heavy makeup and endless hair products. The phrase "less is more" is a preppy creed.
* Glue purses to their arms, especially when going to school. Lip gloss and if need be, a wallet, are thrown into tote bags along with books.

I don't even KNOW what to choose. Some people might say I'm preppy just because I wear abercrombie an hollister. I concur that they DON'T make you preppy. Preppy is a style of clothing, not necessarily a brand. You get what I mean? Also, those clothes happen to fit me.
I'd say I'm none of the above because I don't wear polos or those skirts like prep chicks wear. I almost always wear jeans lol. In fact, I haven't worn a skirt at all this year! lol. I just wear what ever's cute, comfortable, and trendy, I guess.

I'm so confused about all of these clothing genres... so much confusion over what each actually describes.
I wear sweaters, nerdy Model United Nations t-shirts, pants, skirts, oxford shirts. The only pieces of jewelry that I wear pretty often are a pearl necklace and a Darfur awareness band (
Favorite stores include H&M, the Limited, the Gap, and various conferences (I love free t-shirts).

heehe wow..well i dont shop at hot topic so didnt know that..lol..its very...er....opposite..
anyways..im eclectic..well...since i dont buy my own clothes -__- the clothes my moms buys are "normal" actually...maybe not...like she hates the brand name stores b/c its $60 for a plain tee w/ a few letters (their brand)..so we go to those lil boutiques where they have very interesting designs and unique outfits..no 2 outfits r the same...so i guess...its..er..vintagey? iono...
but the clothes i buy for myself when i manage to sneak out of the house...r like..goth/punky...dark colors..lace..frills..spikes..corset..fishnets etc i love it
but favorite stores..boutiques all the way..and the lil fetish stores for corsets etc

Here's basically what my style is like:
I get up in the morning, right? Now, I probably fell asleep on my futon doing work. By doing work, I mean watching animé, or Sealab 2021, or something like that. Maybe I was even writing code for a project--who knows? Anyway, I wake up, still wearing clothes from the night before. Now, sure, I'd like to put on something clean, but--oh noes--I only have twenty minutes to get to class. So I pop in the contacts and put on my hat. I got the hat from AE for $20. I don't like American Eagle stores. I feel like they're trying to suck my soul out every time I go into one. But hey, the hat was nice. I wear it a lot. I'm pretty much known for the hat. I was at this party once, right? This dude comes up to me, he says, "Yo, you live in Vedder Hall, right?" I was like, "Yeah." He was like, "Yeah, I recognized the hat. I live in SE." I was like, "I live in NW." And no, the dorm is not named after the lead singer of Pearl Jam, but I wish it was.
So anyway, yeah, then I put on this corduroy jacket I have. It's very warm. It's from Abercrombie & Fitch. I don't shop at A&F. I'm a poor college student, and A&F is known for sucking souls. But I found the jacket in the trash last year. Perfectly good condition. It's a girls' jacket but it fits me okay, and it's warm, so I wear it. Then I put on my $15 shoes and head to class.
So then I come back and think, "Hey, shower'd be nice about now." So I gather some clothes. Mostly I have some nice Levi's. I've had them for a few years. They have some holes, but they're comfortable. You know how jeans are once you've worn them in. So I get those, and a t-shirt. I don't care what the t-shirt says--if it's cheap, I buy it. So it's probably from a yard sale, or someone gave it to me, or I got it for free for doing something, like reading Chinese stories to kids. Then I shower and put on the clothes, voilá, I'm dressed.
Style on a budget.

I dress Katie style.
The line mostly consists of Nice sweat pants and Jeans.
The shirts are usually artsy and unique if I can find them, I don't like wearing the same shirt as everyone else.
Alot of dark colors, black, red, blue, purple. I guess it'd be nice to have more white in the closet.
Mostly wear comfortable shoes, But if i want to look nice, I usually wear some nice jeans, black heels, and a nice shirt. I really like the sophisticated look. Shopping in New York, I find a lot of stuff I like.
I don't like American Eagle or whatever, too bright and cheerful in my opinion lol. I look fake in that stuff, no use trying to fake it.
I'll shop at Charlotte Russe, I like that store.
Mostly I just find stuff at small stores, I love the Black&White store, I'd buy the whole thing out if it wans't so expensive

Dec 21 2005, 11:53 AM
wow you should really get to know the people first. Then maybe you'd understand why they dress like that. People have a choice and if you don't like the way they dress then fine, nobody's asking you to dress that way. It's everybodys own free will right. Really you shouldn't judge someone by what they wear, or what music they listen to. At the end of the day IT'S ONLY FREAKIN CLOTHES. Would you rather they go around naked? It's them that's wearing the stuff, them thats buying the stuff, them that likes the stuff. If you like it, wear it. If you don't then fine. But saying whats the point in shops like hot topic is stupid. The point in them is to sell clothes or whatever. People obviously like the clothes because the shop is pretty huge, it's not like a one off corner shop, theres huge shops all over america (maybe canada?). And to be honest who cares, like I said, it's only clothes. And you wouldn't like it if you were walking down the street then someone goes OH DUDE YOU LOOK LIKE (insert insult here)! DUDE YOU GOTTA DRESS LIKE THIS! If everyone was the same it'd be boring. Individuality is what makes the world go round right? There's starving people in africa that don't even HAVE clothes. Yet we're all worrying about omg such and such won't like these trousers omg gotta change. Or thinking ew wtf is he/she wearing. It doesn't matter because obviously they like it otherwise they wouldn't be wearing it. Or their mom forced them to wear it. So just be yourself and everybody else will just be themselves. Don't be all like no, can't wear that it's not preppy, or no dude thats no gangsta enough or whatever. Just be yourself and be friends with people because you like the person. Not because you think they look cool.
So anyways to answer the question, I don't dress any style. I dress me. That's the only thing I can be, the only thing I'll ever me. You don't like it then fine, nobody's asking you to wear it. It's what I like because I am the one that's wearing it. So I wear some preppy stuff, some skater stuff, some emo stuff and some other stuff, if I like it and it's affordable, I'll get my mom to buy it.

I don't think I could possibly reply to the first post without filling up space with a bunch of expletives. Just know, I loathe nothing more than when people refer to anyone as looking like a *retard*. Jeez man. What exactly does a *crazy retard* look like. My son has autism, which is considered mild retardation in some circles. I've posted a couple of pics of him here. I think people would agree that he neither looks crazy or retarded. Whatever *retarded* is *supposed* to look like.
Sorry for the rant. I just can't deal with that kind of ignorant, shallow, elitist type of thinking.
Back to topic - I chose none of the above. I don't subscribe to anyone type of style. If it fits, is a nice color, and I can afford it... I'm probably game to wear it.

Real talk, I dress however I want. Wether it be urban, punk, emo, rock, or even goth. But either way im still known as a ghetto girl o_o
And Jason, You gotta open up your mind. Real talk, urban aint the only style thats in style. Its a revolution, people are being who they want to be and not conforming to fit what the media portrays. Either way, we still do got hella kids who live their life by magezines and tv shows but, Dont bash people for what they wear. The illest kid you could ever meet in your life, could be dressed and look hella different from you, and youd never give them the time of day because of how they dress. Now, aint that a shame.
