^ lol. Would that be considered emo/punkish? Maybe slightly punkish.. Hmm..
I don't even know what WOULD be considered punk/anime. Although I can name one WITH an emo-like character. Have you ever heard of
Perfect Girl Evolution? It has a bunch of bishies (bishounen-pretty/sexy men), where they do sort of resemble women, since they have feminine facial features and stuff. But hey, the main character, that one girl, is very sad and depressing and stuff. You should consider it, but it might not be what you're looking for, lol.
As for evangelion neon genesis, hey that's pretty cool. :] Yea it is a classic, but you have to pay extra attention to the plot. Being new you manga/anime, you might want to start off with something more simple.
I mean, like, what would be the point of having an emo/punkish manga? It's gotta have a plot, often involving either love/relationships, mecha stuff, or trying to be the best in something (Naruto, Pokemon, etc.) or accomplish something. Maybe a combinatoin of all of those themes in some mangas.
I used to think Peach Girl: Change of Heart was emo/punkish.. I was wrong lol. :P
Ooh and that Way to the Heart manga looks pretty cool! I read vol. 1 and 2. I would still kinda consider it shoujo

Since it revolves around a "plain jane" and "geeky" type of girl with bishies and involves love and could-be-real-life emotions/experiences.
